Tools and Hardware Reviews of OXO Good Grips Soap Squirting Dish Brush

Customer Review: Good while it lasts
Summary: 2 Stars

I have purchased this product twice and each time the plastic connection piece that accommodates the brush head has broken. Poor design and execution. I thought at first that I was too rough with it when changing heads... but despite my careful handling the second time around, the cheap thing broke. I will not be buying this again and I recommend you find an alternative too.

Customer Review: Great Little Brush!
Summary: 5 Stars

I run an ice cream shop, where we are constantly washing utensils.

I purchase 8 to ten of these each year, and they are the greatest little brush -- I can wash everything from small utensils to large 3 gallon buckets with it. The kids who work for me love it as it keeps their hands free from the soap. I've never had the cracking problem one other reviewer mentioned, but we typically wear out the brush head long before it has a chance to crack.

Customer Review: Idea: A+ Performance: B+
Summary: 4 Stars

I had the old design of this brush for years, until the head became TOO worn, when I decided to replace it. The old design used a leaver to squirt the soap out whereas this one uses pressure. I had more sucess getting soap to come out with the old design. This one is not bad, and is certailnly better than adding soap to a sink full of water.

A few tips: - Keep it 1/2 to 3/4 full of soap. Less than 1/2 there's not enough pressure, more than 3/4 it overflows out of the handle.
- If the head is full of soap suds or dry, soap won't come out, it has to be clear of obsticles and wet to work properly.
- The head pops off fairly easily inside spaces like a coffee pot, but it slips back on easily too. (being able to change the heads is a nice feature, so this really doesn't bother me)

All in all, it makes washing dishes by hand very simple once you get used to the little quirks. I would recommend this product.

Customer Review: It does work and updates make it much improved
Summary: 4 Stars

This will be a quick but important note about this product. We've bought probably a dozen of these for ourselves and for guests that fall in love with it once they give a spin. After an overnight, we send them home with it as a gift. Yes, we make our guests wash their own dishes. ;)

The important note: What we discovered initially falls in line with much of what is said here. The early design, where pushing the button actually raised a lever that allowed the soap to be dispensed, wore out over a short period. The rubber button broke down possibly in part because of the soap - maybe cheap rubber. But after getting the 'improved' version I believe it was the pressure required to use the 'lever' version to release the soap.

With the newer version, shown in the Amazon picture, the button and the soap is released with pressure. Pressing on the new thicker rubber fill cap/button requires less effort AND it lasts and lasts. We've had one in near constant operation for over a year.

So, the old ones - sometimes still found on the shelves of Target - have a failing design. It is a hot property btw. Target often sells out. The best place to buy is Amazon because 1. price 2. availability 3. The sell the newer version that uses a pressure dispenser rather than a lever dispenser.

As I said, we've put about 10 of these out into the world. Of that, only one with the lever design has had issues. The others have kept their recipients quite pleased. Now we just sop up the available refills. Oxo isn't perfect in all things. But their record is pretty good. I think they initially missed on this but came back with a fix that works.

Customer Review: It leaks
Summary: 3 Stars

Despite reading the other reviews that mentioned leaking, I bought this anyway because it's perfect for after-meal clean-up. I even put in the concentrated dish detergent figuring maybe the thicker stuff wouldn't be so prone to leaking. Well, guess what. It does. I still use is as a plain dish brush, but a grocery store variety would have been cheaper. I really, really wish it didn't leak. The concept is great. The execution needs improvement.
