Tools and Hardware Reviews of Optimus H-4110 9-Inch Dish HeaterCustomer Review: 30 second heater Summary: 1 Stars
Ordered the small heater once it began to get cool in the mountains of Afghanistan. Arrived via international shipment in sufficient packaging. Plugged it in and it illuminated instantly and ran for about 30 seconds before burning out. It sparked and lit and I thought for a moment that I was going to have a fire on my hands. Too much trouble to return from Afghanistan; I'll just suffer the loss.
Customer Review: 300 Watt Wonder Summary: 5 Stars
Bought five (5) of these nine-inch parabolic reflector radiant heaters and they work well in proper applications. Great space heater for small rooms. Point it towards you and it warms up surfaces, not the air. Regardless of how much you pay per kilowatt/hour, 300 Watts is much less energy consumption than a 750-1500 Watt oil-filled heater or similar. You can lower your whole house thermostat and use space heaters to selectively add warmth when and where needed. This can work much to your benefit if your home has only one or two heating zones. Keep combustibles at least a foot away. The tip-over safety feature is a plus. The orange glow works well as a night light, too. Might I suggest a large dinner plate as the base to protect the surface it is placed on, especially the front.
Customer Review: A very nice, energy saving personal heater Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first personal heater, so I can't compare it to others. Previously I've used space heaters, but I read that can use a lot of energy so I actually started paying attention to the wattage. At 300 watts, this heater was the lowest energy consumptive unit I found, and at a reasonable price.
Obviously, since it's not using that much energy, it's not going to put out as much heat as a fan powered space heater. This has no fan, it's just emitting heat from coils that are then reflected by the dish. I found this fits my needs perfectly, as I just wanted something that I can sit on or under my desk to keep me warm. The fact that it's silent is a HUGE benefit.
It seems extremely safe too, safer than the space heater I used to have. Unlike the space heater, this will turn off if knocked over, as there's a button on the button that will only allow the heater to run if it is fully compressed. I actually found that sitting on my carpet, the button doesn't compress very well, so I have to put it on something flat like a book. Except for the metal covering the face, the unit itself doesn't seem to heat up at all, which is good as it's plastic.
It would be nice if the unit could swivel more (as is it can tilt a little bit vertically), or if it had a timer setting, which the upgraded Optimus unit has, but for this price point (19.99 with free amazon prime shipping) I'm quite satisfied.
Overall: Very happy with the purchase, keeps me warm, and amazon had the the best price I could find with free shipping for amazon prime.
Customer Review: Awesome little dish Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this product on countless cold mornings. The instant focused heat, good for one or two persons, is a joy. Beats the inefficient and noisy forced air central heating. I wanted to buy a second dish, unfortunately it had gone out of stock. I will eagerly look for it again next season.
Customer Review: Be prepared to hug it.. Summary: 4 Stars
Not because its cuddly and soft, but because this thing will not "reach" far if youre in a very cold room. I live in Central New York with only nominally working central heat which keeps the rooms above 45 at best, and this thing will work from maybe 3-5 feet away, probably better if it were closer, or if the temperature wasnt so terribly cold. However, with the low power consumption, I dont have to worry about it tripping the breakers or killing my wallet come the utility bill, when my desktop power supply uses more power than this thing!
