I'm an older person who has difficulty bending down. This is a great item for cleaning up kitty litter or to handle other smaller tasks. I really like this recent purchase, but I have to admit that at 5'7" - it's a little short. My hubby and I are the same height and we both have to bend over to use this properly. We've thought about giving it to my mother in law who is 5'1" since it would probably be the perfect height for her. Just a word of caution. Otherwise it is great! I consider myself a frugal shopper. I want quality but I don't want to be ripped off. I think this broom set made by OXO is great quality and very durable. We are a family of 6 and life happens... A LOT!! We have had this set for several years and it has served us well and it's still going strong.

Customer Review: Attractive but short, and doesn't stand up

If I had seen this in a store I would have known what I was getting. Despite the reviews saying it was short, I was expecting a slightly-small full-size broom, which would have been fine (I'm 5"1'). But it isn't a full-size handle, the top only comes up to mid-chest height. This is fine for small pick-up jobs, but I was looking for a primary broom for sweeping the apartment, and at this price I expected something bigger.
The look and feel is nice, which I have to say was a major factor in my purchase. I could have bought the one ugly plastic blue thing they had at the local drugstore, but I wanted something with a little more style and quality, which is why I had to take it online.
The major problem, as others have mentioned, is that it doesn't stand independently, at least not without a major balancing act -- it will lean against a wall just fine, but it won't stay upright unsupported, quite a disappointment in an "upright" broom.
So, if you're looking for an attractive not-full-size broom for small jobs and you don't require it to stand upright, and you are willing to spend a fair amount of money on it, this might be the broom for you. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.
