Tools and Hardware Reviews of P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage MonitorCustomer Review: A Good Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I am pleased with this device. It's really nice to know how much juice something is taking to operate.
Customer Review: A fantastic tool (and my favorite new toy) Summary: 5 Stars
This product is awesome. After years of high power bills, I finally found and ordered this product, and the results so far have been very enlightening.
- My extra freezer in the garage, which everyone told me was costing me a fortune is not that bad (avg. 25 watts).
- My TV/media center (including a TiVo which is always on) was not that bad, either (avg. 25 watts when I'm not watching).
- My desktop computer, on the other hand, was consuming 180 watts constantly (225 when the monitor was on) -- it turned out that it was not actually going to sleep like I thought it was. This alone accounted for 25% of my electric use and costing me around $30 per month (due to tiered pricing from PG&E).
More investigation is ongoing...
Customer Review: A good product Summary: 4 Stars
The P4400 Kill A Watt monitor is a neat little device that helps you understand where the electricity in your home is going. You plug it into an outlet and after about a second it gives a read out of the present power usage of any device plugged into it in watts. The Kill A Watt will also record the amount of energy used to the nearest hundredth of a kilowatt but, it will take some time for devices that don't use much energy to even register in that setting. Due to this it takes sometimes 15 minutes to an hour to get a useful Kilowatt measurement (the unit the utilities use when billing) from a small household alliance or computer.
The Kill A Watt's only real problem is that it has no memory or movable screen and requires some force to plug into a socket as well as to plug something into it for measurement. To remedy this I leave it plugged into a surge protector so that I can plug and remove it easily, have some slack to move it when reading the screen and a convenient off switch.
This is diffidently something an energy conscious person should have at their home and will teach you a thing or two about your electronics and their hidden costs.
I feel it was worth the twenty five dollars I spent on it.
Customer Review: A great, easy to use device to help cut your electric bill Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these a year ago when our electric bills were sky high and I couldn't figure out why. The device is easy to use, you just plug it in an outlet and then plug the appliance or device that you want to measure into the Kill A Watt monitor. You can tell at once how many watts per hour it uses or you can leave it plugged in over several days or a week to see how much electricity the item uses over the time period and then get an average per hour.
I found that one of those little electric heaters was costing us nearly $100 per month to use on a constant basis. I found the incandescent light bulbs were using 8 or 9 times the electricity that a compact fluorescent would use. Regular lights on a Christmas tree were using almost 10 times what the same number of LED bulbs used. I ran around the house plugging in one thing after another, the TV, electric blankets, computers, stereo and appliances. I also ended up making a lot of changes and saving money on our electric bill. Changing out light bulbs alone saved us almost $30 per month.
This little device more than paid for itself. Two thumbs up for this one!
Customer Review: A must buy Summary: 5 Stars
I always wanted to know how much electricity everything in my house use and this little gadget is a great way to find out. Once I took this out of the plastic packaging, I just plug this in and plug in the device I wanted to monitor and hit the watt botton to find out how much watts it uses. I would recommend anyone who is energy conscious to buy this. The price is great and the money you save from using this is an added bonus.
