Tools and Hardware Reviews of P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor

Customer Review: Does what it says it will, a good educational device
Summary: 4 Stars

The device is simple to operate and does exactly what the manufacturer says it will do. I found the device useful for answering two basic questions:

1. How much power is my space heater consuming right now? The device can show you the current voltage, watts and amps currently used.

2. How much has it cost me to run my space heater over the last couple of days? By presetting your local electricity rate (in cents per kilowatt/hour) the device will tell you how much the electricity has cost you.

The only feature I would like to see is a battery-backed memory, so that you do not have to re-enter your current electricity rates each time you plug it in. It would also allow you to traverse the menus and enter values while holding the device in your hand - it can be awkward to configure the values while it is plugged into a hard-to-reach electrical outlet.

I now know that my space heater costs me about $0.25/day to operate at my preferred temperature. Not bad.

Customer Review: Does what it's advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

Works as advertised. Just plug it in and go thru the menu. I set it up on our new LG Refrig. for 30 days and it cost $5.59 to run it. Me, the wife, no children. Now I'm going to connect it up to the "old" refrig. at my son's house (him, wife & 2 children), to see if I am "saving" any money with the new refrig.
I will probably buy one for each of our boys.

Customer Review: Dont Buy.
Summary: 1 Stars

I may be returning this thing.
The hardware MAY ? be OK ..... dunno...
but the user interface is VERY crude
and clumsy and erratic.
So it's hard to say if it's worth the
effort to troubleshoot the thing or not.
Meanwhile I dug out an old clamp-on
style AC ammeter, made a little split-wire
AC extension cord for it and quickly measured
the current drain of all my computer stuff
and my wall-warts, in various states of
on-off-asleep-standby-etc..... and quickly
came up with an arrangement of multi outlet
powerstrips which allows me to save a few
watt-hours of our vanishing energy store
for the use of my kids.
I wanted to do that with the Kill-a-Watt but
found it not so easy to get working so
abandoned the effort.
Sorry.

Customer Review: EZ watt killawatt electricity usage monitor
Summary: 5 Stars

Kill-O-Watt EZ Electric UsageThe monitor arrived on time as shipped by the seller. By following the easy directions that came with the monitor, I was able to isolate a refregitor that was using excessive electricity. You can also determine how much electricity your computer, printer, monitor etc is using and turn them off when not in use.

Customer Review: Easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a bit pricey, but it does what says, and it is easy to use. It's a good instrument for assessing your energy usage and teaching kids.
