I bought the PUR Filter after years of using Brita products (pitcher and dispenser). It got annoying to have to refill them over and over, so I thought the faucet mount was an easy transition. God what a waste of money. After about 4 months of normal use, the mount would no longer stay on my faucet. It was constantly being knocked off and consequently would start spraying water everywhere. Before that, the light indicator stopped working even though the filter still worked. The faucet mount is flimsy and cheap, and definitely not worth the $40 or so dollars Proctor and Gamble charges. My fiance called Proctor and Gamble to complain and they sent us another one. Unfortunately we had bought a box of refill filters at costco, but once those are all used and finished this will be our first and LAST Pur product we buy.
Buy Brita instead.
Customer Review: Filters good, but the faucet housings crack!

These filters do a great job of clearing up sediment in the water, and eliminating chemical taste. However, I've had two of the housings crack in the last year. The first was within an in-store 30 day warranty, so I simply did a switch at Lowes. The second cracked as well after four months, Lowes would not replace it. This week I'll see if the manufacturer will provide a solution. TRCustomer Review: Give me a break!

This is my third Pur water filter system. My first was a fixed horizontal mount which over time would shoot a stream of water from the base that mounts to the faucet. This was not a design flaw as I had bumped it several times during the duration of operation.
Installation was simple; didn't need the additional hardware that came with filter. It was necessary though to push with some effort to secure the bottom cover over the filter cartridge proper, so expect that and removing it (the filter cartridge) was difficult.
I agree with the other reviewer that the motion of turning the filter from the horizontal to vertical seems smooth and precise; however, I found it awkward to operate even though I am left handed. You would have to hold the container in your left hand and operate the filter with your right hand. I found the fixed position filter like the FM-9400 easier to use by turning the switch on these similar models with your right hand while holding the container you are filling with your left hand.
The filter water tastes great as here in Westport our quality of water does have a "skunkie" taste from time to time and the Pur system does an excellent job of removing any such taste; but I would go with a three stage filter.
I recommend a deep sink or high arch faucet as I have some difficulty filling a 1 liter plastic bottle. Again it is imperative not to bump the apparatus as this will lead to leaks.
VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT RUN HOT WATER THROUGH THE FILTER AS THIS WILL RUIN THE FILTER.
You can use a three stage filter cartage on this model.
Have only had the filter in use for three days now (Feb 14th)and will report back if any leaks occur which other reviewers have mentioned.
When I write a review I take into account the price of the item I'm reviewing in comparison to similar items of same within in it's price group. If you cross shop between Amazon and "the Bay" you'll find some great deals.
UPDATE:
My filter has devolved a vertical hairline crack just below the filter indicator window. Seem other reviewers has reported a similar problem.
I recommend that the owners of this filter not run the water at full pressure when the filter is in use; rather, reduce the water flow just enough to notice a slight reduction in it's flow.

We bought this for use in our motor home and bought PUR since we've always found PUR to be good quality. This in no exception. It works well, puts out an adequate quantity of filtered water and can use either the two stage or three stage filter. You won't go wrong with this filter.
