Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount Chrome FM-9400B

Customer Review: Ages quickly -
Summary: 2 Stars

In 5 months and two filters, every joint that could leak on this filter does. If was fine for 3 months, then water started leaking everywhere it could. I tightened where I could and made sure all parts were in place, but the internal o-rings just died. I paid $45 for this locally - it should last a lot longer than that. Going to try the Pur warranty department and see what they will do for me.

As far as water quality - pretty good. If it didn't leak like a sieve now, I likely would have given this a 4-star rating.

Customer Review: An OK filter...
Summary: 3 Stars

I've had two of these now. A few thoughts:
- It is convienent and easy to use.
- None of the provided adapters fit my new (1 year old) faucet. I had to do lots of looking in hardware stores to find an adapter.
- The filter housing is made of PLASTIC, contrary to what the description says. These are chrome colored plastic, NOT stainless steel.
- Consequently, my first one leaked fairly soon after I got it. It's not made very tough, in my view. And given it's size and location over the sink, it's easy to knock it when rinsing pots and pans.
- I find the flow through the filter is very dependent on the water pressure coming from the tap. I notice that my building water pressure fluctuates significantly, and my flow through the filter correspondingly changes. That said, the flow through the filter is never anything near what the tap puts out.

Customer Review: BEWARE! Filter Is Empty!
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this PUR 3-Stage Faucet Mount in SEPTEMBER of 2010.

As everyone knows, the filters are only good for around 100 gallons of water, (depending on the quality of water in your home).

This filter is still going after running hundreds of gallons of water through it.

I've used it to fill up the dehumidifier which takes 4 gallons every 5 days. I use it to cook with, drink water daily. And yet, it is still supposedly filtering?

You could run this filter all day, 24 x 7 and it would not ever stop. Why? Because the filter cartridge is EMPTY.

To prove the point, I'm going to remove it and take a sledge hammer to it to reveal what is or is NOT inside.

No filter on the market that is a faucet mount, can filter the amount of water that has been put through this one. To make matters worse, the water in this community is full of minerals.

I have used the PUR water filters before and they have always stopped at some point when the cartridge filtering material is full.

Not so this time.

So, buyer beware, PUR is laughing at us while we purchase their empty filters!

Companies such as this one needs to be put out of business.

Customer Review: Bad leaks after a year
Summary: 3 Stars

We have the same problem as most, but after a year of good use. We did have to adjust it a few times, but just recently it started leaking out of the area connecting to the faucet just like the video review on here. How frustrating.

I wonder why PUR doesn't try to correct this? We may get another, just because we really enjoy the quality of the water, and the fact that we can get it out of the tap for pots, pans and jugs as opposed to only using a glass that fits in the refrigerator door filter.

Customer Review: Best filter in this price range -- great tasting H20
Summary: 5 Stars

For me, the quality of filtration and the taste of the water are most important. The Pur filter delivers both. The third stage of the 3-stage filter in which minerals are added back into the water makes for excellent tasting water. Other filters, such as Britta, simply remove everything leaving a less-than-desirable taste.

I've had no leaks or problems. Sure, this is not an industrial-strength or industrial-priced filter. Eventually something will give and it will need replacing. But I had my first Pur filter for four years. It lasted until I moved and I left the filter along with my old house. I bought a new one for my new place and in both sinks I had no trouble installing the filter.

I have absolutely no knowledge of tools or plumbing or anything remotely "handy" and it was a cinch for me -- so anyone can install one of these. Just look at the type of faucet you have and find the adapter that matches it. It's a no-brainer, really. Don't over or under tighten, and be sure to include the little rubber ring and there'll be no leaks.

Great taste. High quality filter. Reasonable price. Better than the competition.
