The hardware that attaches this filter to the sink is made of plastic, not metal. It barely lasted two months before it broke. Now the plastic hardware won't even hold the weight of the filter, so there is no way to attach the filter to the sink. The filter looks nice and does a good job of filtering the water, but all of that is pretty useless if you can't attach it to the sink because the cheap plastic hardware broke. This was a waste of money. We have since bought a different faucet-mounted water filter made by GE. It was less expensive, looks every bit as good as the PUR filter, and it's hardware is all metal.Customer Review: Clean water - you know, just in case...

We've had this in our house for over TWO YEARS and it's still going strong. It's even outlasted our roof (meaning that our roof leaks more than this filter)!
Be warned that warm water is not friendly to the filters on this device, however. The warm water apparently kills the filter causing your little red light to blink.
This brings me to my first complaint (or quirk). I can only assume that the lights on this bad boy are run by hydroelectric power as I've never replaced a batter and yet the lights still blink strongly. The are like a light house warning me of the precarious rocks of bad filters ahead and tell me to change out my equipment before my glasses crash into bad water.
I guess another complaint would be that the filters are not cheap themselves.
In the end, I really don't feel like I'm saving money either. I mean, honestly...I have a faucet... I probably wouldn't buy bottled water otherwise.
Altogether, this unit is effective though not entirely cheap to keep running. I guess it's an added preventative measure just in case my local water plant is putting out bad water.

This is a great product for those who want the simplicity and low-cost of an attachment-type filter.
This is a new design, and seems to function better than previous models. We'll see how long the battery lasts! Only downside I could imagine is that you don't see usage on the filter- either the light says it's good or it's not.
I love the simplicity, and convenience - filters aren't that costly either... I recommend it!

Undercounter - a real pain to install.
Pur - very easy. Had it in in less than 2 minutes. Replacing cartridges is a snap.
Durability
Undercounter - we replaced the spigot part for a sturdier one after two years but otherwise is as good as new after four years.
Pur - unknown but experience with other of their products suggests it should hold up for years.
Esthetics
Undercounter - All you see is the attractive spigot. Looks good.
Pur - A bit clunky and gets in the way compared to the undercounter but well designed.
Winner - If you can get it installed, the undercounter is the better way to go.

Good price and quality. Cheaper than local stores and thats before free shipping and no tax. Order from comfort of own home and delivered free. Save gas, time, tax and the cost of buying water. Hooks to tap easily and you have filtered water at you finger tip. Removes nasty tast of city water and gives you a great glass of water any time you want it. I have been using these for years and they wrok very well.
