Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount Gray FM-9100B

Customer Review: Pur Junk
Summary: 1 Stars

This product is horrible. I have gone through three of the horizontal mount version and two of the vertical ones. In about 6 months the horizontal ones leak arround where they fit to the faucet. The virticals spray water out of the window over the wear indicator. They will spray water all over you and your kitchen. If you keep the box the filter came in you can call PUR within a year of purchase and give them the code on the box. They will send you a cupon for a new filter. The consumer protection site here is filled with complaints about this peice of junk.[...]

They redesigned it and now it pops off the faucet instead of just spraying water all over you.

Customer Review: Pur Stainless Water Faucet
Summary: 5 Stars

Product worked just as advertised. I had bought it to replace another PUR water faucet that had gone defective. This model is much better.

The service from Amazon was excellent also with the goods arriving faster than I had originally anticipated.

Customer Review: So Far So Good
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this 11 months. It's not perfect but, for me, it's been the best model I've tried to-date.

And to clarify, I do have the FM-9100 (brushed stainless steel) model.
Some of the reviews here make me think the reviewers are talking about different specific models. Not all the PUR models are created equal.

The key to my happiness is simple:
1. It hasn't developed any cracks in the body that spray water everywhere. (Unlike another PUR model out there.)
2. It has metal threads and I don't have killer water pressure, so it stays on the faucet. (Unlike a Brita model out there.)
3. The water tastes fine.
4. It's easy to use and out of the way.

Understand, it's got some limitations:
1. Make sure you're using the right faucet adapter. Even then, if you have very strong water pressure, it's probably not going to stay attached for the long haul.
2. I think it's hard to change the filter. It takes a lot of hand strength from me to twist the cover off and back on. If you have hard water, it will eventually get worse. I'm guessing I will one day break the unit while attempting to get the cover ALL THE WAY ON.
3. The filter life indicator is a rough guide. It *seems* to go by how many times the faucet is turned on, not the number of gallons filtered. So buy replacements when the light blinks yellow, then replace the filter when it starts tasting bad.

If any of those are deal-breakers for you, I suggest a filter pitcher or a larger under-sink model.

Customer Review: So far so good.
Summary: 5 Stars

Read a few complaints about leaks with this product. Took the advice of a reviewer and used plumbers tape and tightened carefully with some adjustable pliers. When removing the aerator from the faucet and tightening the mounting nut on the unit be sure to cover them with cloth to avoid damage to the surface. Water tastes great....

Customer Review: So far, ok
Summary: 4 Stars

We had one of the vertical Pur filters for several years before it developed a leaky crack around the faucet mount (as many others have seen). So how does this compare? I like the horizontal format. This model means you only have to switch a lever near your faucet outlet to easily turn the filter output on and off.

First the bad:
- This model is NOT made of Stainless Steel. It only has a brushed steel -like plastic main cylinder. I had read this from other commenters so it was not a surprise, but purchased it anyway because I don't like the alternative plastic chrome finish. NOTE: only the cylinder is made to look like brushed stainless, the rest is the same old plastic chrome as the `chrome' model.

- Opinion only: I don't know if the faucet mount mechanism on this model is going to hold up very well. It has a quick release mechanism.

The good:
- The horizontal version looks good. I think its better than the vertical

- It is easy to mount.

- Using the lever to select normal vs filtered water is easy and intuitive

All that said, this thing is a bit expensive compared to the non-stainless-looking model so it might not be worth it for you.
