Paladin has come up with what is essentially an any cable, any connector, either end crimp system. Need a BNC to RCA 4'6" cable with RG-59? Pick the connectors out, just use ONE crimp tool, and with some training you can turn out perfect cable assemblies every time.
If you do just a few per year, then this is pretty much optional. Your fingers can be used to flare the sheild out after trimming. If you crimp several connectors per month then 3 tools are useful to speed things up a bit.
This flare tool is essentially the last step prior to the compression crimp. It angles the shield wires away from the center dielectric. You can visually look and make sure there are no shorts, but this tool helps prevent shorts to begin with
The other two tools are custom wire strippers for thick (RG-6/RG-6 quad shield combined) and thin (RG-59) cables. These use razor sharp blades to cut the 1/4 dimentions for you around the cable end. After cutting, this tool will form the shield into a cone which can be done by hand for small jobs.
If you are looking to complete your crimp tool kit, this plus the two strippers (or one if you use only one cable size) will do the job.
For RG-6 cables, this tool makes nice 1/4" stepped cuts:

Unfortuantely amazon does not stock the rg-59 tool. A good kit would have the truly universal crimp tool with reversable wide opening head (this is what limits the hand squeze crimpers from doing complex connectors like BNC - the connector is too big to fit inside the notch). After the tool, two strippers for either cable type, the end flare tool, and finally an assortment of 16 connectors for F, RCA, and BNC in both RG-6 and RG-59 sizes.
With that kit, you would spend a minimal amount of money but be able to make anything needed and continue to do so provided you replenish the connectors.
The crimper by itself will do most small jobs. If you are a professional the strippers and flare tool will asist in consistency and fewer scrapped connectors at $1.50 ea due to a short circuit. If you have used other crimp tools you will find the Paladin a useful tool for professional results.
