Panasonic makes the best residential air conditioners, bar none. They are powerful, cool down quickly, and are very quiet. And they are energy efficient, too. The 9800 BTU really beats a lot of 12,000 BTU (non-Panasonic) models out there. This is also relatively easy to install. I also have a few other Panasonic units with different BTUs and they are all star performers. The oldest model (a 10,000 unit) has made steamy New York summers bearable since 1999. Great quality, period.

Panasonic's room air conditioner has a compact remote control with 12-hour delay ON/OFF setting timer and is fitted with a removable, washable intake grille for easy care. 4-way air deflection system allows for wide airflow with 3 cooling speeds and 3 fan speeds along with an auto restart. The Air conditioner can operate in economy operation mode or dry mode, has a ventilation control and has a left or right side power cord. Through the wall installation capability * Processional Installation RequiredConvenient, powerful, and efficient, this 9,800-Btu air conditioner from Panasonic features a wide range of settings to tailor the atmosphere of a home to your comfort. It cools between 350 to 500 square feet and has a highly effective construction for an efficient use of energy. The unit is controlled by a straightforward soft-touch digital panel on the front or operated with a remote control. Its settings include cool, economy, fan, and dry, and a temperature range from 60 to 86 degrees F. In addition, the unit features three fan speeds and a four-way air distribution system to maximize circulation. One of its best features is the 12-hour on/off timer, which lets you program it to turn on when you come home from work or to power down after you fall asleep. For easy maintenance and installation, the unit comes with an intake grille, a left-right power cord, and a slide-out chassis. For window installation, it requires a horizontal opening between 27 and 39 inches and a vertical opening of 16 inches. It can also be installed through the wall, though professionals are recommended for this procedure.
