I have a heavy Kirby vacuum that I used for the carpets that also had an attachment for wood floors. Pulling the upright along while cleaning the wood floors was the pits. It kept falling over and wouldn't round the corners. The wand had to be cleaned every minute. I got this Panasonic vacuum strictly for the wood floors. I love it! It is small and lightweight, but has good suction. I can zoom around everything with ease. The floor attachment has a spinning brush powered by the vacuum suction. It sweeps the wood floor clean while sucking up the dirt. It works great! It is not a vacuum for carpets. On carpets, it would only act as a carpet sweeper. So, if you have a good upright for carpets and need something for the wood floors, or your tile kitchen and bathroom floors, give this one a try. The cord is short, but retracts into the machine. We bought this vacuum to use on one specific job in our cleaning business. They have a lot of ceramic type tile that needs to be cleaned and mopped regularly. The rotating brush works great and suction on this unit is very good. It really makes cleaning a hard floor thorough and quick. We liked it so much that we got another to use on oriental rugs. If rugs are the really thing they are very expensive and you want to be gentle with them. The rotating bristles on the head are soft and do not rotate extremely fast. For cleaning a lot of regular carpet, this vacuum would be a bad choice but it's great for what it's made for!Customer Review: Great little vacuum

Well, I can't speak to longevity, as we have only had this a couple of weeks. But it works just great. We have a vacation home with limited space, and this really fills the bill. After buying the house, we went through it with this vacuum cleaner (after "professional cleaners") and picked up a ton of pet hair and other stuff. The head design is excellent for maintaining a lot of suction. It is very light and has a convenient carry handle, which makes it a breeze to do stairs.
The only real negative is that the attachments are quite small. I am not sure you would want this as your primary vacuum cleaner. Bags are a bit expensive and not as easy to find as some other brands.
