Tools and Hardware Reviews of Panasonic NI-C78SR Steam/Dry Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate

Customer Review: A fine iron but small water capacity
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this iron for well over a year and have found it to be a fine performer. Heats fast, lots of steam, not too heavy. The removable water chamber is not just a gimmick but helps in refilling the iron. One drawback is the very small capacity of the water tank. Looking a the design of the iron, there appears to be plenty of room to have made the tank larger.
This iron also has a retractable cord which is a very handy feature.
All-in-all, you won't go wrong with this iron unless you do A LOT or ironing...then you'll find yourself making lots of trips to the sink for a refill.

Customer Review: A must buy!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the iron we have been looking for. Priced right, medium weight, good steam. Would recommend to all our friends.

Customer Review: A winner from Panasonic
Summary: 5 Stars

The Panasonic NI-C78SR is a marvelous steam/dry iron. It performs the basic functions flawlessly -- excellent temperature control, abundant steam, shot of water, vertical steam, etc. The additional aspects of this iron make it a standout: long cord which is housed neatly in cord reel; removable water tank which makes filling really convenient; stainless steel soleplate which is much smoother than so-called non-stick plates; it is reasonably light. I bought my daughter an earlier version of this iron two years ago and it still works as if it were new. My wife and I bought a T-Fal (more expensive) iron for ourselves three years ago, and it fell apart, which prompted the purchase of the NI-C78SR.

Customer Review: A work of Art - A cure for iron-o-phobia - I may ENJOY ironing!!??
Summary: 5 Stars

Tempted to give this 4 stars, because it's forcing me to learn a new habit...keep it in it's cradle whenever you set it down for a second to adjust the position of the object you're ironing. See quilter's review if you iron thick items. I'm not a pro, married to a pro who has been liberated from ironing... I hate, avoid and was phobic about ironing.

Until this:
PRO
1. I am left handed - I am still trying to avoid an "invisible cord"... it's great for lefties.
2. THE CONTROLS ARE VISIBLE - NOT CONFUSING. We just returned a $400 Italian iron with hard to distinguish controls.
2. no special water needed, transparent tank avoids uncertainty.
3. it's beautiful, in a case with recessed handle. Space age a la Jetsons!
4. To the Japanese designer ... Eraii! Kakoii! Subarashii! Excellent.

COMPLAINT FOR AMAZON: you AVOID mentioning the wattage or any technical and electrical specifications. This is not your normal policy. All electrical UL rated devices in the US and Japan publish their power usage

Customer Review: After 10 years I'm ordering a second NI-C78SR for stand by.
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this iron. No telling how long I've had it, at least 10 years, probably longer. I really don't need to replace it yet, but nothing lasts forever. At this price, such a deal. I love being able to unsnap just the water tank and fill it under the faucet, no mess, no special water, and it never sputters or leaves brown spots. The cord winder is a bonus, no waiting for the iron to cool, or winding it just right so the iron sits upright. (You do need to guide the cord so tht it winds evenly from top to bottom or it may stop before it's all tucked away). It steams beautifully, never leaks and is easy to self clean. I am a sewer and use a really heavy Rowenta for tailoring, etc. The Panasonic has outlasted at least 3 of the Rowentas which cost 3 - 4 times as much and are notorious for leaking. It is also much better for pressing fine fabrics as well as garden variety day to day ironing. I love it for batiste baby clothes, it has a nice sharp point and isn't so heavy that it hurts your wrist when you need to get into those tight little gathers.
