Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peltor 97044 Tactical 6S Active Volume Hearing ProtectorCustomer Review: Peace officer praise Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of the Peltor 97044 Tactical 6-S hearing protectors for myself and a friend and fellow officer. They exceeded both of our expectations and performed as well as or better than some more expensive muffs tried in the past. Thankyou for a fine product.

Sucks for inserting a removing battery, especially when you have to do it after use because of battery contacts corroding.
Customer Review: Peltor 6S Electronic Hearing Gear Summary: 5 Stars
These are the best electronic hearing protectors I have ever had. (I have worn many) If you shoot anything from .17 to .50 BMG like I do, these electronic muffs will work perfect. With their slim profile, light weight, they are very comfortable to wear and they don't take up much room in your gear bag. I liked them so much I bought a second pair for my brother as a birthday present. I give the five stars!!!
Customer Review: Peltor 6S Works for Me Summary: 4 Stars
Some people are having trouble with changing the battery. Just changing the battery in mine after non-use for a couple of years. Once you know how it is simple. Stick your forefinger under the ledge between the foam and the rubber ear muff at one end or the other. Pull upward gently until it gives. If you have trouble on one end, try the other end. Mine came loose easily and, voila, there were the batteries. Of course, you have to do both sides. They seem to do the job for me while shooting a Taurus 92 and a Ruger Ranch Rifle.
Customer Review: Peltor 97044 - Not so User Friendly Summary: 3 Stars
At first I was excited about using these ear muffs for shooting, but various annoyances with the Peltor 97044 started to creep into the picture. For one, the sound reduction rating (19 dBA) was decent but also wasn't great. The ability to change from top of the head to back of the head was not an option, but I could live without that. However, once I figured out that installing/replacing the batteries were going to be a chore every time, I had to send the Peltor 97044 back because following the directions to install the batteries was not initially intuitive and proved to be a bit more challenging than I would like for changing them out on a firing range. Add to this was this ear muff was to be interchangeable for my wife and my own use. If she wasn't capable or comfortable with changing out the batteries easily on her own without tools, they had to go back. On the plus side, I did like the ability of the ear cups to pick up and amplify noise independently for ease of directional understanding of where a noise/voice came from. The fit was comfortable and seemed to be reasonably easy to adjust between my wife and my head sizes. Also, the profile (the ear cup size) was small, easily fit next to a rifle butt and did not feel like you were wearing lead bricks on your head when you bent over to pick something up like the old style noise canceling ear muffs did. However, in the end, we went with Howard Leight R-01526 for its better sound reduction rating (22 dBA), ease of battery change out and the ability to connect to an external sound source.
