Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peltor H10A Optime 105 Over-the-Head EarmuffCustomer Review: Absolutely Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, forgive my bad English.
This is my first foray into the earmuff world. I live near a noisy area (in a developing world), with lot of vehicular traffic creating unwanted noise. I was exploring techniques about sound-proofing my home, but then considered a less costly and a more practical solution offered by earmuffs. Some of the reviews posted here helped me very much in purchasing this product. I have been using this for a week now and I must say these are fantastic. Following are my specific comments.
1. Comfortable to wear, given the type of product it is...(large object covering your ears).
2. It immediately shuts out outside noise (as advertised) and brings in much needed silence.
3. You can still hear people talking around you (unless they whisper). This is the best part!
4. The sound-proofing is about 70-80%. You can still hear noise, but nothing can shut out complete noise.
5. You will hear your own foot-steps and your voice through your body. Its a strange feeling.
6. Reduces kids (and wife's) yell's to manageable levels.
7. You can buy this product without worries, and its well worth the money. Thanks to Peltor for creating a great product.
8. The product description may be a bit misleading, in the sense its not an "active" noise cancellation device. It does not do any extra work in reducing the noise apart from hugging your ears very closely. But it works just fine.
Rating: 5*+.
Thanks for reading my (long) review.
Customer Review: Absolutely great for lawnmowing, not so great for the plane Summary: 5 Stars
The problem: I like to listen to the radio while I'm working in the yard. However, if I turn up my headphones loud enough to hear over my mower, blower, edger, etc., then I'm just blowing out my hearing even *more* than the lawn equipment would be doing on its own.
The solution: I looked at a bunch of more expensive noise cancelling headphones, but the best solution far and away were the Peltor H10A's. I wear a set of earbuds underneath the H10s, and I can listen to the radio on the lowest volume setting with no problem, even sitting right on top of my noisy riding mower. I can still hear loud noises with these on, but they're quieted down enough not to be a problem. They are even big enough to fit over my pair of "ear clip" style headphones, although large ear clips probably wouldn't fit.
The only down side is that H10A's are, obviously, heavier and uglier than a simple pair of electronic headphones, and can retain some heat after long periods of use. It's certainly not enough to be a problem while working in the yard or shooting at the range or something like that, but if I wanted something for plane flights or at work, I might go for a pair of lighter but more expensive electronic noise cancelling headphones.
Customer Review: Absolutelyfrickingamazing. Summary: 5 Stars
I used to avoid big heavy earmuffs because they were uncomfortable. I'd wear earplugs plus the lightest most comfortable muffs (usually nrr 19) to get good sound protection.
But these are absolutely amazing - they're more comfortable than my light muffs and I don't need to use plugs with them!
Customer Review: Adequate sound attenuation at indoor shooting range Summary: 4 Stars
I use them at an indoor shooting range that allows mid-sized rifles. They attenuate the sound well even from adjacent booths. Very comfortable for handgun shooting. A little bulky when shooting rifles with stock tucked at chin.
Customer Review: Amazing. The best thing I've bought all year. Summary: 5 Stars
Wow. I don't know how I lived before these. They are so quiet and peaceful. Previously I was using noise-canceling music headphones during my urban commute, but the suction on these makes anything else feel and sound like a joke.
Also, if you have music player earbuds and certain-shaped ears, you can put these earmuffs right over the earbuds and have pretty good sound. Doing that earbud-earmuff combo might make your ears sore after extended periods of time.
The only drawbacks are no music/audio port, and sometimes the earmuffs slip down on the wire frame.
This is my first customer review on Amazon, because I wanted people to know that this product can change lives.
