It does what is supposed to do: it holds paper towel rolls and avoid waste of paper. Mine is mounted vertically, and as somebody else said, I did have to use short screws, the ones that came with it are too long. Just drill it and it is done, 2min operation. As all the "noise" people are complaining about, this is not to be taken seriously, right? There is noise produced even if you breath, if you walk, if you open the fridge. This paper towel holder is simply so good that I had to come and post a review. The craftsmanship is excellent, the design is virtually perfect, it can be mounted horizontally or vertically, and it allows you to dispense and tear single sheets, or as many as you care to pull. The ratchet noise is barely there for a single towel and doesn't bother us one bit. If you're looking for a good, inexpensive, attractive, well-designed paper towel holder/dispenser, this is the one.Customer Review: Expensive, but worth it

$13 is a lot of money for something as simple as a paper towel holder. After all, one can buy several of the cheap plastic kind with folding arms. We lived with one of those horrible things for way too long, with it's difficult to load design. Then, while pulling a little too hard, the whole towel would fall into food being prepared below. All that foolishness is gone with the Perfect Tear design. The ratchet detent force is a shade too light for me to ensure repeatable, one handed tear offs, but that's a small irritant. If it's resistance could be made adjustable, that would make it truly "perfect".Customer Review: Fails Within 1 Month of Use.

I too thought that I had found the perfect paper towel holder with this product! It looks good and worked beautifully in controlling the paper towel roll from unravelling...for about 3 weeks. Within a month's worth of use (2 adults, no kids) the ratchet inside the holder failed and the thing now acts like a regular paper towel holder. I see where many other buyers have had this exact problem and around the same time-period. I wish I had seen the product reviews BEFORE I had purchased this (I bought it at a chain home store that doesn't offer customer reviews on their web site). This failure is very disappointing, especially since it seems to be an ongoing choice of materials problem that could be solved by the manufacturer, but hasn't. I love this Paper Towel Holder. Not only does it clear up counterspace, but it works like a charm from the wall. It also looks really sleek and modern - making my kitchen look even better. I love how it gives some resistance so only the paper towels you want come off. My friends and family loved it so much that they got one for themselves.
