Tools and Hardware Reviews of Petzl E49P TacTikka Plus 4-LED Headlamp, BlackCustomer Review: Flip-down feature very useful Summary: 5 Stars
This headlamp is especially versatile because of the red filter that flips up or down. A red filter (for me at least) is easier on the eyes when reading or doing other indoor tasks at close range. This feature is easy to use while you're wearing the headlamp - much more convenient than separate colored filters you have to install.
Customer Review: Flippin Sweet Summary: 5 Stars
works great and exactly as described. Very useful for camping and recreational activities. Also just handy to have for car repairs if u have something go wrong at a late hour. I use it while kayaking, camping and hiking. Great bang for buck. Put my friends headlamp to shame while hiking. Almost didnt even need his on, this one took the cake. I have another flashlight that i use for spotting things that are alot further away. So i suggest getting a mate for this, like i do.
my only negative is that the flap is very small and hard to put down and up with big fingers, but you get used to it quickly. Red light is perfect for looking for something in your tent at night without blinding someone.
good buy
Customer Review: Good for a Quick Night Run Summary: 4 Stars
I frequently run in poorly-lit areas, and the Tac has been up to the task. The LED lights are adequate for all weather conditions, providing more than sufficient light in heavy fog. Brightness level and beam position are easy to adjust by the quick press of a button. If safety is a concern, the front red flashing light is easily visible from a distance of 100ft. Overall, the fit is comfortable and lightweight--I forget that I am wearing a headlamp after a few minutes. However, the plastic housing quality is questionable: the battery has popped out on several occasions, causing me to have to stop and look for it. For whatever reason, my Tac shuts off and will not turn back on every now and then, but I probably have a defective unit. I also have a Black Diamond Ion and a Black Diamond Sprinter, but this headlamp is the most comfortable and least hassle for a quick run. I would recommend the Sprinter for the trails and endurance workouts that need more substantial water-resistance.
Pros:
1) Comfortable and lightweight
2) Multiple brightness settings
3) Flashing light setting with flip-down red tint
4) Locking lamp positioning, which minimizes adjustments
Cons:
1) Build quality: cheap plastic housing pops open occasionally
2) Shuts off randomly
2) No rear reflector, but an arm band works
Customer Review: Good light, could be better Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this light for a task light. I wasn't looking for anything to light up trails for a long way ahead of me. It's light, comfortable, and works well. The light produces a nice, soft light over a wide area. The light comes on in full brightness with the first button push. If you push the button again within 1 second it will switch down to the lower two modes and then to flashing.
Now for where this light could be better. It is expensive and at least for this price you would expect a voltage regulator. It's a low powered light and when the batteries begin to run down they will need to be replaced before their useful life. I have yet to reach this point as I haven't had the light all that long.
It could be a touch brighter...more LED bulbs. Especially since there are 3 brightness levels it would be easy to dim down when needed. With headlamps you want to be careful that you're not blinding the other people in your group.
And for picky little things, I also bought this light to use at night with my telescope so I wanted a red filter, one that was attached and wouldn't get lost. The filter leaks a small amount of light out of the top. It's no problem for me but that sliver of light can catch other people and ruin their night vision.
Customer Review: Good piece of gear to have Summary: 5 Stars
I had one of these given to me in Iraq which lasted the entire deployment until I misplaced it recently on another exercise. I purchased one to keep in my truck and to have at home and now getting ready to purchase a third one to replace the lost one as I like to keep a good light readily available in my flight helmet bag. It is essential to use for preflights, post flights and everything in between, and with the different levels of light, you don't blind everyone around you or even yourself- you just have to depress the button quick enough to dim the light.
Comfortable, good light output with different settings although I never used the strobe feature, and very well built. I have had the cheaper versions found at Wal-Mart and elsewhere and they are cheaper for a reason. The switches easily are placed to the on position when in a bag causing dead batteries, short battery life overall, small light output, cheaply made. I mean, they fill a niche, but when you are flying at night and going to some austere places, you want your gear to be able to perform and function which is why I don't mind spending a few extra dollars for a good light. Remember, there is no substitute for light when it is dark except after sunrise. I always carry a headlamp on missions and when flying, it is around my neck as an extra light source. Definitely worth having in you kit bag. Wish they made a strap with the ACU pattern and foiage green light housing with an option to have a blue lens instead of red. Great product overall though- you will definitely not be disapointed.
