Tools and Hardware Reviews of Petzl E86 PR Tikka XP Headlamp, RedCustomer Review: I'm surprised at the brighness Summary: 5 Stars
For a headlamp--first that I've owned, it feels solid and bright. Just thought of buying something I need to use once in a while while working on bikes and cars, but it should be useful for just about anything like walking at night. The headband is quite sturdy feeling and solid constructions. No complaints.
Customer Review: It Lights my Way Summary: 5 Stars
This headlamp hangs around a statue of Buddha by my front door, reminding me to don it when I take the garbage out at night down my dark, long, earthen driveway to the road below. Snakes, tarantulas, scorpions and larger creatures are out and about at night, so it is essential to see where one is stepping! This headlamp lights my way. I also like to use it coming home from any venue where the light is dim and I need to get back to my car. Not traditional uses, but really important ones. I think this would make a thoughtful gift.
Customer Review: It instantly becomes indispensable ... Summary: 5 Stars
My wife had a Petzl Tikka Plus from about 8 years ago that has been through many extended camping trips and also found lots of use around the house. I finally decided to get one for myself and discovered this one, the Tikka XP (in red) from Amazon.
It surpassed the older Tikka in so many ways my wife decided she needed one also. The spot light, incredible brightness/distance of the beam and especially the warm hue of the light compared with the cold blue light of the other units make the XP stand out among all LED headlamps. We just ordered a third one in the Desert Camo for our son who is overseas in the military. He is excited to be getting one since he had one of the older Petzel Plus lamps that disappeared somewhere in Iraq.
This thing is so useful it becomes an indispensable part of your life! Everything I do that requires holding a flashlight while I do it has just become a much less frustrating and easier experience.
I've ordered some low self discharge batteries (Sanyo Eneloop) to keep them running at top performance. If alkaline batteries get weak the light dims but with the rechargeable NMH you can top off the batteries any time they need it and you won't be contributing to the local landfill.
A fine piece of equipment. The reviews here and at other forums and sites make it obvious, this is the headlamp to get.
Customer Review: Just wanted to add my vote Summary: 5 Stars
A lot has been said already. It works great. Batteries last quite a while for my use anyway. Perfect for hands free. Not heavy. I use it during power outages, camping, reading, working on things when there isn't enough light. I actually use it quite a bit.
Customer Review: Most versatile headlamp available Summary: 5 Stars
There is a reason this headlamp receives accolades: it is the best out there. Comfortable, easy to use, bright, long-lasting battery and versatile. I bought several--my parents keep one in each car now for emergencies.
