I have 20 years limited experience using standard welding helmets. I heard that the auto-darkening helmets are great but never splurged for one due to the cost and the fact that I only weld every now and then on very small projects. When I started a Porsche 914 rustoration and new I would be working on the car in a relatively dark garage I decided to research auto-darkening a bit. After receiving this helmet I immediately used it to weld a tractor deck at dusk with no light. HOLY C*#P! What a difference. This was the first time in 20 years where I could actually see what I was doing. And the resulting weld/repair looked professional. I can't compare this helmet to other auto-darkening helmets but I can say the construction of it is very similar to standard helmets you might buy at Home Depot. Definitely better then the cheap crap you get in a welding kit with a new cheap stick welder. I doubt it would hold up well in a shop for everyday use. But for my needs its perfect and the price is damn good. The auto-darkening feature works very well. The head strap, again, not heavy duty construction but I could adjust it to fit my gord comfortably. It does have a removable forehead cushion for washing. I wish it covered more of the top of my head. It seems to be shorter then normal. I have to wear a backwards baseball cap hence the 4 stars. Not perfect but damn close. The stickers are silly looking and not necessary but whatever. I haven't used it enough to remark on the solar feature but I can say it worked great right out of the box. All in all, if you find yourself welding a few times a month then this is a fantastic deal. Oh, and I think it took less then a week to receive. Ok, the flames on this helmet are cheap stickers, but the helmet itself works great. If you've never used an auto-darkening helmet before, you are in for a real treat. I will never go back to the traditional "head-nod" style. No more bad starts. Each bead begins exactly where I want.Customer Review: My husband loved this

This is a great welding helmet for anyone looking to purchase an auto-darkening helmet without breaking the bank. The darkening factor and speed are adjustable and adjustment is easy. My only complaint is that the headgear seems to slip when I'm wearing it unless I adjust it very tight. Perhaps I need a welding cap under it but this is the only problem I've had. This is the only helmet I own so I can't compare it to a more expensive model. Still, I'm very satisfied with my purchase.Customer Review: Ok, but not variable adjustable on switch time/sensitivity

I paid aliitle more for this one because it has a slightly bigger window than the cheaper ones...
What I didn't like about it is that the "Switch time (sec.): 1/25,000 and Adjustable Sensitivity: Yes" is only andjustable with a switch , not a knob, to only high/low...i guess in my research that feature might have been available on the cheaper models, but i would have lost a 1/2" on view area....so it's a comprimise...
I did like that they gave me an extra clear shield, and bought from them because i figure it would be able to get parts easier for it than the the cheaper ones (this is a real tool store), and they sent me a nice thick catologe
