Tools and Hardware Reviews of RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike Hoist

Customer Review: Good value
Summary: 4 Stars

I previously bought two very similar hoists. The other hoists were better quality but more expensive. All of them work. With this RAD set, I used vise-grips to bend the arms of the hooks to improve how well they secure the bike. I also get more "snags" with my RAD sets, although it could be operator error. The old hoists I have hold adult bikes and this one holds a kid bike.

Works as advertised. It took me quite some time to install this in my garage. I don't have a furnished garage and the trusses are 2x4 and are standing vertically. As such, I had to install other 2x4 so that the 4" side was exposed for the installation.
Works great after the install and now I've more room in our garage - all the 3 bikes are up.

Customer Review: Great Concept, Poor Execution
Summary: 1 Stars

Great idea but unfortunately did not work. Lifted the bike ok but the clamps that attached to the seat and handle bars could easily slip off. Based on that I was not prepared to trust my $2500 road bike and nearby car to it. I stuck with good old stable ceiling hooks and hang my bikes upside down. On the positive note, return was excepted no problem for a full refund by DTX International Inc.

Customer Review: Great Deal

The product worked as advertised. You may connect it in parallel directly to the joist, but will need a 2x4 piece of wood if you desire to connect it perpendicular to the beams. The brake works very well - if you suddenly let go of the rope, it immediately stops. I recommend threading the rope through each stage (there are 4 sections) before mounting to the ceiling.

One thing that you should know is that it is not really possible to get your bike all the way to the ceiling. I tried placing the clips in different places (i.e. wheels, bar, etc.), but then the balance of the system was lost and it became difficult to raise uniformly. So, be aware if your overhead is tight. You should add about 6-10 inches onto the height of your bike to determine how low it will hang.

There were a lot of higher priced alternatives, but this one worked fine. I started with 2, but will be purchasing more in the future. I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Great Product

This is a great product for the price. I took some time to set up the system by making some wood 2X4 mounts for the pulleys as my beams run parallel to the orientation of the bikes. The joist beams are not thick enough to mount this system. The home made mounts were "I" shaped 2X4 mounts and the setup works great! The locking mechanism seems pretty sturdy.....I have not has a bike fall or slide unexpectedly. I would buy more if I had more bikes.
