After years of using cheap plastic junk, I finally spent some hard earned dough and and bought two of these baby's, one parallel and one perpendicular. Installation was fairly easy. I read the instructions several times, assembled both units and installed them in about an hour and a half. No big deal. The quality of these reels seem to be second to none. Solid craftsmanship, along with outstanding customer service. Rapid Reel Corp. e-mailed me, thanking me for my purchase. They said they are always here if I ever have any problems with either of the units. How often do you get thet kind of service with a company? My cheap Ames hose reels are currently on the curb in front of my house, waiting for the garbage men to put them right where they belong. No more cheap junk for me.
But along with these outstanding hose reels, I made some other purchases to complete my quest for lawn care perfection. I bought two 75ft. lenghts of Apex Neverkink garden hose. In addition,I added two Bon-Aire fireman type nozzles. Also, I bought what very well may be the mother of all sprinklers, the Gardena Aquazoom 350/T. I haven't received this yet, but after much research I think I made the right choice. I finished my spending spree by buying the Nelson brand all-brass quick disconnects, so all my hoses and attachments will be a snap to change. The total price for all this, about $350.00. I feel it was money well spent. I wanted to do it for the last time and do it right. Thanks for reading.

I love this hose reel. I can't even begin to calculate how much money we've spent in the last 10 years on stupid, cheap, plastic hose reels that break after using them for a summer. This has got to be the best answer out there for folks like us who have a hose spigot on the side of the house - no more struggling with the hose reel as it walks down the sidewalk while I try to unwind the hose to water the front, then having to drag the hose back with me so that the dainty, plastic reel can handle rolling it all back up. I guess I'm tough on stuff, but if an item is marketed for a certain purpose then it should be able to handle rhinos like me who don't want to pussy-foot around making it work. No more of that with this hose reel!! I pulled the hose all out around the corner of the house and just rewound it - no more dragging. It unwinds and rewinds easily with 100' of hose on it. I would've given it 5 stars except for the fact that there are plastic components inside of it which make it prone to breaking, in my point of view. It's rare, but even in this day and age, there remains products of simple design/engineering that assemble, install, and function perfectly. From one of the best assembly/install manuals to the precisely fitted components this product exudes top quality.
Pay off is very smooth (perhaps better with an angle payoff vs the parallel) and takeup is a breeze. Beleive me, (I bought three of these) it's worth every penny over the cheap, plastic garbage that ends busted after a year of use.
I am confident you'll be very, very pleased.

Finally, a parallel wall garden hose reel that works! It is designed with efficiency in mind, well constructed of durable metal material and rewinds the hose easily and smoothly. I had occasion to call the manufacturer to order a replacement for a part I accidently stripped. I purchased one of these reels in early May 2008 because the plastic hose reel I had for 2 years was falling apart and was difficult to use. Over the years I have replaced my plastic hose reels every 2-3 years because the plastic breaks down in the sun and cranking the reel gets harder and harder. When I received the first Rapid Reel I was surprised to see that almost every part was made of metal and was very nicely manufactured. The assembly was easy and very straight forward. I was skeptical at first that reeling in the house would be any easier than with the old plastic reel --- boy was I surprised. This thing is smooth, efficient and sturdy, I can reel in 150 feet of hose with minimum effort. I liked the Rapid Reel so much that I purchased a second one for my other outside faucet. Stop paying for cheap plastic hose reels every 2-3 years and put your money on a Rapid Reel this one should last for years. I am sure you will save money in the long run and it will not be a pain in reeling in your hose.
