I bought this vacuum because a fellow pet owner had recomended. I did not want to buy the new version because it is yellow and black, so i read the reviews and decided i could save $50 and buy refurbished. The vacuum arrived and it looks brand new when you unbox it. My only complaint is that i have a heck of a time getting the handle release to work correctly (slow learning curve). I was like a kid on christmas, assembled the vacuum, plugged it up and i was amazed at how great this vacuum was (or how bad my old one was). I thought that i needed to buy new carpet, turns out i just needed a new vacuum. I bought a vacuum with bags, hoping this will keep the dander in the bag and not in the air. Hopefully, my husband can quit taking dayquil daily. Save the $50 and buy this vacuum, you wont be disappointed (maybe you can figure out the handle release better than i can).
Adendum to previous review. It doesnt do a great job on hardwood floors. The tools that attach to the vacuum continuosly fall off. I never did get the hang of how to release the handle without beating the crap out of the vacuum. I hate fact that you have to use a switch to turn on the hose to vacuum. My last vacuum turned on the hose when you locked the vacuum in an upright position. At times, i forget to turn the switch. I bought an offbrand bag and they come with this adhesive on the top....make sure you use it or you will open the latch to change the bag to find all of the dirt and hair outside of the bag. It does a good job of picking up dirt and hair from carpet. I wouldnt reccomend this vacuum and I dont think that it has anything to do with it being refurbished.

I admit I had my reservations about this vacuum...especially since it was refurbished. But after reading reviews of this vacuum versus the dyson animal, I opted to go for this one because of the price. I figured for the money, if it wasn't great, I'd just get the dyson at a later date. I'm glad I did because this vacuum seriously kicks butt! We have two dogs (one with a serious shedding problem) and a baby who's getting ready to start crawling and I was concerned about my daughter being covered in dog hair after being in the floor. My worries are gone...this vacuum has some serious suction and the majority of the dog hair (and everything else that's on the floor) is gone! The attachments are great and it's easy to put together. The lone drawback is that it's not light. I wouldn't want to be carrying it up a flight of stairs but other than that, you can't do much better than this vacuum.Customer Review: works great...until it stops working

the reviews are true--it's louder and heavier than my previous, more expensive hoover, but it got the job done. however, 8 months and about 20 vacuumings later, only the suction from the hose works! the refurbished warranty has lapsed, and forgive me for not wanting to clean a 2500 sq. ft. house with a hose from a heavy vacuum! i thought i was getting a great deal with the refurbished price...but $12/month for a vacuum that's now worthless isn't that great of a deal after all!
