Tools and Hardware Reviews of Reliable Steamboy T1 Steam Floor Mop

Customer Review: Does not withstand time
Summary: 1 Stars

I initially gave this a positive review on Amazon but I must retract it. I purchased the Steamboy in June of '07 and several months ago it broke. The bottom plastic triangle part where the screws attach shattered. I don't think that the plastic was made to withstand the heat that the mop produces and broke after about 2 1/2 years of using it. I don't think this is acceptable for the price of the product! Also I found the length of the cord to be an annoyance. I wasn't able to get very far in cleaning until I had to unplug and move it and then wait for it to be ready to steam again. I recently bought the Shark steam mop and have been happy with it. I would never buy another Steamboy, the concept was a good one but the product quality is shabby and there are better products out there. This one is not Reliable like the name says! Please don't waste your money.

Customer Review: Don't be fooled
Summary: 1 Stars

In theory this is a great idea however the pad that you use to put over the plastic head of the mop gets saturated almost immediately by the steam. You are then simply pushing a dirty wet cloth over the rest of the floor. After 5 or so careful uses of this mop it now leaks and is essentially worthless. Don't waste your money.

Customer Review: Easy On The Trigger
Summary: 4 Stars

Before buying this item I read some comments about too much water released during use. I bought it anyway and after using it, it's great! I found that if you keep your finger on the trigger, all the time, it does release a lot of steam which stays on the floor as water. I used it again and didn't hold the trigger all the time and it still cleaned well without a lot of water left behind, although it still needed a few minutes to dry. Great tool that is easy to get used to.

Customer Review: Esiest way to clean an entire house of hardwood floors
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the Steamboy based on reviews by others here on Amazon. I have been nothing but pleased with the purchase. My entire 3500 square foot house is either hardwood floors or tile. I plug in the Steamboy (via extension cord), fill the water reservoir and go to work. The entire house can be done in less than 30 minutes (though it does take through 4-6 pads to do so). The pads aren't difficult to change, and I haven't really had any problems with them loosening and coming off while I clean. I like that I can just toss them in the washing machine and re-use them.

I give it 4 instead of 5 for two reasons: 1) the cord is ridiculously short (though that was remedied with and extension cord) 2) I wish the head was a bit larger.

All-in-all, one of my favorite purchases thus far.

Customer Review: Excellent Floor Cleaning Solution with a few minor annoyances
Summary: 4 Stars

After getting a new puppy and realizing housebreaking wasn't going to be a one or two day affair, I needed a light weight, chemical free device to clean up after her. My house is all sealed hardwood, fairly easy to clean.... so you'd think. I'm dealing with muddy foot prints, and a dog that thinks the toilet is wherever she wants it to be. After exhausting research, I chose the Steamboy. It was super close between the bissel steam mop and the steamboy, but the triangle shaped cleaning head for getting into corners just made sense to me. I considered the Steam Shark for about 10 seconds at which time I realized that my Manly warez would be seriously compromised by that color device (what were they thinking?). The Steamboy heats up as advertised, 30 seconds or less, it's ready to go. It Steams like there's no tomorrow. The water tanks seems adequate, I think any larger and the device would simply be too heavy for comfort. It cleans as advertised as well, There isn't a mess that dog can make that this thing can't clean. Minor annoyances, I mentioned there were a few. The cord is too short, I get that long cords can be a hassle, but this cord is simply too short. Either give the device an adequate cord, or remove the cord completely and give the device a plug and an external extension cord. The pads don't always stay on. You really need to tighten the heck out of them to ge them to stay on, so much so that I'm afraid I'm going to break the string. Now the big one. On wood, the device appears to have some kind of issue with balance on the steam head. When you push the unit, it slides fine, but on dry wood, pulling it back, the front of the mop lifts off the floor. As the floor becomes more and more wet, the device starts laying flat on the pull and no longer lifts, but at that point, you're done cleaning anyway. Being an Engineer, I notice the flaw about 5 mins into the first use, the connection between the steam head and the handle is too far to the rear, had it been a bit more centered, I'd give it 5 stars. All in all, still highly recommended.
