Tools and Hardware Reviews of Reporter RWIS Chamberlain Wireless Portable 4-Channel Intercom System (Pair)Customer Review: A Wireless Communication tool that is great for seniors! Summary: 4 Stars
We had purchased a Reporter RWIS Chamberlain doorbell/intercom system for my 78 year-old mother whom had a hard time getting up to answer the door. Now, she's able to talk to the person outside, ask them to hold on and wait until she can get to the door. This has been great with neighbors whom check in every once in a while as well. I added the additional 2 intercoms for other parts of the house when my sister and I come visit and she can get hold of us by just pressing a button - no more yelling needed! I highly recommend getting this sytem -- especially for the price -- it's a worthwhile investment.
Customer Review: A great intercom system for the home. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my house because I was so tired of yelling upstairs or having to physically walk there when I only have a short message for my kids, like "Dinner's ready!" What a perfect solution.
I bought 4 for each corner of our 2-story house, which is 3600 sq. ft. Setup was easy. They were on the minute the batteries were in. I wasn't exactly sure how to program them at first as the instructions said to push the learn button and wait for the beep 10 seconds later. Turns out it beeps the minute the learn button is pushed and if I wait for the second beep, the memory is cleared. So, pick a unit to be the base unit. Push the learn button on the new unit until it beeps once, then push the learn button on the base unit until it beeps once. Push the talk button to connect and make sure all is well. Repeat with other new units.
They are perfectly quiet when in standby mode. When I push talk, it beeps and anyone from any unit may respond. Once that person responds, the two units automatically go on a single channel and can have a private conversation. There is a way to have conference calls and a voice activated talking mode.
I actually dropped one of the units when installing the batteries and the antenna broke in half. It still works as good as the others. When talking, there is no static or interference with other electronic equipment in the house, one of my primary concerns when buying this product. Reception is clear throughout the house.
This is a terrific intercom for the house and a great bargain right now. I'm glad I got it.
Customer Review: A great product Summary: 5 Stars
I think this is a greater product. Unlike other intercom systems I've bought this one is wireless and the sound is clear.
Customer Review: Adequate System Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this intercom set to monitor our pregnant goats. "Monitor" function is good; range of use is great (over 300 ft from house to barn, through solid walls and metal roof). Battery only use lasts a very long time. Hate the "beep", I would rather just start hearing the goat's "BAHHH". Very little actual volume control--it's loud, louder and loudest and not very easy to figure out how to set. It will be a good intercom for just calling from barn to the house but a regular baby monitor would be better for my purposes if I could find one that is truly wireless like this.
Customer Review: Beep-beep! Stop it! Summary: 2 Stars
I bought two of these intercoms to replace my 25 year old wireless set. After reading the instructions, which are a bit tricky when setting it up for the first time, I tried them out. My garage is where intercom number one went with the other in my kitchen about 160 feet away. The sound on these is excellent and I was amazed at the clarity of the broadcast. That said, these intercoms must have ben engineered by the Road Runner cartoon character. I leave mine in the monitor position so I can hear what's happening out near the garage and every time the slightest sound is picked up, the intercom in the kitchen beeps first before hearing whatever sound is coming over it. This seems to be a constant, maddening problem. Airplanes, motorcycles, doors slamming all cause this thing to beep over and over with no provision to shut off the beep. Also, because of this annoying beeping, I sometimes shut it off so as not to wake up my family, and when shutting it off, it makes more horrible video game type sounds until it shuts down. This would be a great little setup if ONLY they'd lose these tremendously irritating sound effects or at least make a provision to shut them off.I would have sent them back but I must have something to be able to hear what's going on out near my garage for security reasons. However, that security is limited because they are turned off more than on due to the annoying beeping sounds.
