Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rockwell RK5102K SoniCrafter Deluxe 72-Piece KitCustomer Review: Ehhh Summary: 3 Stars
My wife and I just bought a home and I'm renovating the entire thing. Although I have many tools to get the job done, I saw the infomercial for the Fein Multimaster and was intrigued. The Fein was cost prohibitive, so I sterted looking for options and ran across the Rockwell. I've only had the oportunity to use it twice (once for cutting, once for sanding) and wasn't impressed. I cut a piece of base moulding to make room for a cabinet and the blade dulled about a half inch into it. Sanding proved to be better. I needed to sand a small area on a cabinet door I'd made and the Rockwell did a great job with out much vibration. Overall, I think the tool has a place, but I would say don't buy into the hype of a wonder multi-purpose tool. I've got other projects lined up and will attempt to use the Rockwell, but have my regular tools ready in case the Rockwell fails at them.
Customer Review: Exceeded most expectaions. Summary: 4 Stars
Every feature worked great, better than expected...except the scrapper. That feature didn't work as well as I would like.
Customer Review: Excellent Tool Summary: 5 Stars
I've been wanting a Sonicraft Tool since Fein was advertising their $400 plus tool kit. I recently found a version of this at Sears, but it was battery powered and Sears don't keep batteries or replacement parts & supplies in stock, so I walked away from it. When I seen the Rockwell Sonicraft, I immediately ordered it. I already had a need for it the day I received it. My task would have been complicated to say the least and the cosmetics of the job I'm sure would not have been neat without the Sonicraft. So far, I've used the cutting blade and the sander. I'm impressed with the way the sander paper is applied. It's velcro, and believe it or not, the paper really sticks and stays in place. Not a problem pulling the paper off when it needs replacement.
The quality of the tool appears and feels heavy duty. This is a tool that should last a long time with proper care. If I was to complain about anything, it would be the case that holds the attachments. The case is too small to put the attachments and supplies in. I had to buy a bigger case in the Arts & Crafts Department of Walmart, but then it was almost too big to fit into the carrying bag that holds the tool.
It's still worth the money and I would encourage anyone who performs general maintenance around the house or professionals who wants to save time and aggravation with certain unique jobs. This is a five-star product.
Customer Review: Excellent tool for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I have used this tool to cut 2x4 TYP deck boards for replacement, to cut out rotten soffit and trim, and to make precision cuts in a very expensive knotty alder bar to provide clearance for a wine cooler. This tool performed competently at all of these tasks. I am actually finding more and more uses for the tool. There is a learning curve for those who have not used an oscillatory tool before and it is easy to overheat or break blades. The key is to let the tool do the work without forcing it.
The only reason I could not rate it at five stars was that the speed control failed. Since I received this as a present and did not have the receipt, I thought that I would be stuck with a single-speed tool. But after a foray through very poor customer support in the far east, my wife was able to get someone here in the States who spoke English. They promptly sent a complete new kit and instructions for returning the defective unit. Once you get to the right people you can expect good customer service.
Bottom line - this is a great tool for less than half of what you would have to pay for the German original.
Customer Review: Excited to use this tool Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great tool. I was a little disappointed with the blades. The tile/Grout blade wore out very fast and the wood cutting blade doesn't cut very fast. You just have to have patience and it will do the job.
