Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rubbermaid 3H11 Configurations 3-to-6-Foot Classic Custom Closet Kit, TitaniumCustomer Review: Best bang for the buck, Summary: 4 Stars
I bought one of these to test it for my triplex. I tried to hang it myself, after the 5th hole I decided to hire a handyman before I turned my wall into swiss cheese. It comes with both drywall anchor bolts and wood screws, I couldn't find my studs (story of my life) and didn't feel comfortable using the drywall anchors since they're suppose to be at least 4" from a stud and I wasn't sure where they were. The handyman hung it fine, but I noticed after he left that there were empty holes. He said the kit didn't come with enough. It was missing about 2/3 of the screws that there are holes for. He said it was very secure and it didn't need any more. Eventually, I had another handyman put some in just to be safe but he was probably right. As for the design, I'm quite pleased, it does offer many options on how to arrange your shelves. Also, the quality is pretty decent. It's nice that clothes on hangers can slide past the supports, very cool design. I ended up buying one additonal pack of 2 shelves to use up the vacant space. When I went back to OSH to get another set they had run out and it's now discontinued or "obsolete" in OSHish. It is so rare that I actually like something I buy enough to want to get more and then it's gone! So I googled it and found it on Amazon at a fraction of the price I paid on sale at OSH. Plus free shipping! I ordered another 5 of them for the other units and my spare closet. The only thing I'd suggest to make it more awesome is really sketch out where your studs are, where you plan on putting the verticles because although it's very flexible to get the optimum amount of shelfing configurations you really need to have the verticles more evenly spaced as it shows on the box. If you're putting it up yourself, don't forget to place the rubbermaid bracket hider panel up before you hang the verticles or you've buried it like my handyman did. Having left over parts isn't really the best way to install anything.
First thing you have to do is measure from the ground I think it's 86" up (the box says the amount) then you hang the back horizontal brace bar. Once that's up and level you hang the verticles off of it. So, that's why it needs to be covered up with it's plastic bolt cover panels, but the top shelf fits right in front of it and will hide most of it anyway. This is by far the best way to save money and get a really decent looking closet system. It's not high end, but it's not cheap looking either. Lament wood is probably the next step up, but that can peal and age. As long as you don't have any kids messing with it, it appears it should last. If I was able to hang it myself and it came with the more screws I'd have given it a 5th star. That would have made it perfect, but it's pretty darn close.
Customer Review: Couldn't be easier to install Summary: 4 Stars
I doubled my closet space in less then 2.5 hours. The Closet kit was easy to install and I am thinking of ordering two more for my sons closets. I ordered this on a Friday afternoon and with free shipping I recieved the Closet kit Saturday morning. I was shocked to find it on my door step the next day. I would recommend the product to anybody who needs to organize their closet and not spend a bunch of money to do it.
Customer Review: Dangerous Product Summary: 1 Stars
Simply put, this product worked as advertised for about 11 months, before failing miserably. This failure caused damage to my home and personal property. The weight of the objects on the system caused it to be pulled out of the wall, sending metal parts flying everywhere. If someone had been in the room while the failure occurred, they would have been injured as well.
Do not buy this product if you value your home or your safety.
Customer Review: Doubled my closet space Summary: 5 Stars
I actually ordered 2 sets of these. Each took a wall in a walk in closet. I ripped out the Closetmaid crap the plastered the holes. The finish on the Configurations was so nice, I decided I couldn't just put it up without painting the walls. Yep, I painted my walk-in closet, and installed a stainless steel 3-halogen bulb light fixture to match. I also left enough room in my 9' tall walk-in for top moulding to boot. I figure, the closet is one of the first rooms you enter every morning of your life, why not bring it out.
I took my time on the installation, to get the measurements correct. I had one trouble spot where I hit some metal joiners where the stud was. Metal screws fixed the problem easy. My g/f and I are both 6 foot, so I actually set it up higher than the instructions say to. I took the extra bottom space and just mounted extensions for accessory shoe racks. All our shoes are now off the floor and high enough I can run the vacuum through. You will need the shoe racks.
I have double the space in my closet now, and I've used every bit of it.
Customer Review: Easy closet configuration installation Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very easy custom closet configuration system to install. I like that the rails attach to the wall and don't have braces that take up more room. It is very flexible because once you have the rails attached you can put the shelfs and rods where ever you need them.
