Oh are these nice. made well. Love the inserts to allow moisture, water to fall to the bottom. Great seller also!
Customer Review: Great, but you gotta work with them. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had a set of these for years (all three sizes, with a second small one bought separately). Given how good the Amazon price is, I just bought another set.
You've got to work with the boxes, and your fridge. If you've got a relatively damp fridge (more common with the side-by-side models, since there is often condensation on the freezer-side wall), make sure the produce is absolutely dry before storing it, or there will eventually be mold. If you have a relatively dry fridge, you might want to add a bit of water to the bottom of the box. What you're storing also matters - leafy greens have lots of surface area to lose water, carrots have a lot less, lemons have almost none (and an oily skin that prevents moisture loss - I actually refrigerate citrus without the lid, just with the grid to prevent mold). If I'm storing really delicate herbs like cilantro or dill, I'll put a damp paper towel over them in the box, or, if I'm feeling Martha Stuart-ish, stick the freshly cut stems through the grid into some water below.
For storing the boxes, not only can you snap the grids to the lids (cha cha cha), both to the inside and the outside, you can also nest a small-medium-large box set with the lids on if you turn over the medium box, and snap the medium grid to the outside of the medium lid, and the small and large grids to the insides of their respective lids.
Someone did some serious engineering work on these. I wish Rubbermaid would come out with a deeper set, since keeping a whole head of lettuce is a lost cause, and maybe also a long version for bakery bread loaves (I already use the big box for round bread). Otherwise, they rock.
(oh, and since nobody else seems to have mentioned it - these are made out of polypropylene, and are made in Malaysia and the USA).
Customer Review: Has BPA! Not dishwasher safe! Lids do not seal. Summary: 1 Stars
At first these Rubbermaid containers are helpful, and appear to seal well. However, they are NOT BPA free, and if you put them in hot, soapy water once, or the dishwasher top rack, the lids will warp. Soon, you'll notice the lids are difficult to attach to the containers, the corners pop up, and they progressively become worse the more you wash them. I'm switching to Anchor Hocking, or Pyrex glass storage.
Customer Review: I just ordered a second set! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered one of these sets after reading all the reviews with much hope that I could help preserve my fruits and veggies a bit longer and save money too. Many times I have gone food shopping and missed eating certain items in time before they've gone bad. well, this certainly has already helped!!! Items I placed a week ago, such as strawberries and lettuce, are still fresh!! I even placed bananas in the large container, which normally for me last about 2 days before starting to turn brown and mushy, and today the skins are still partially green and have not gone soft at all!!!! WOW! ...I just ordered a second set to store more items, enough said!!! - I recommend this!
Customer Review: I love this product!!! No more bag lettuce for me. Summary: 5 Stars
When I first saw these on TV, I thought it was silly. How could a tupperware container make veggies last longer. Well I saw one size of this at a discount store, same brand just a broken up set. I decided to give it a try and wow was I surprised. I absolutly hate buying bag lettuce. You buy it and it lasts maybe a few days then turns. I no longer have to do this. I buy a head of organic romaine for around a $1.50, by far cheaper than bag lettuce. I chop it and clean it, then put it in my produce saver and I have fresh lettuce for two weeks it tasted just as fresh as if I had just purchased it. I was amazed and came back to Amazon to buy more. Love this product!! What a cool invention.
