I have used Tuffy pads for many years and have not been able to find them anywhere but Amazon for a while. These pads are the best--they never scratch, clean thoroughly, and last a long time.

Back in my teens in the 60's I was introduced to the Tuffy as a dishwasher at Coco's Resaturant - a Western chain that cornered the market as an upscale coffee shop concept. Still today there is nothing like it, and I was happy to find this item available through Amazon's merchants. Even the off brand woven nylon scrubbers are hard to find and don't hold up the way the Tuffy does. Unlike Scotchbrite type pads, it wont scratch surfaces like Teflon and stainless steel, and the open weave keeps it from "loading up" with food particels and hinder the scrubbing action. My only regret is that these are the home version. The institutional size is close to 3 times the size of these. I don't know if they are even still made. For many this could be a near lifetime supply, but I guess you could share them or use them as Christmas tree ornaments?

Why has the Tuffy scouring pad been so hard to find? Here's a theory: It's too good to be true. I'm old enough to remember the classic British movie, "The Man in the White Suit", starring Sir Alec Guinness who played the role of a shy scientist who invented a cloth that would never wear out. He was hailed as a great hero - for a few days - and then the clothing company realized that once everyone had bought one suit they would never need another, and the Labor Unions realized they would all be out of work, and soon everyone was in an uproar against him ... played as only as the ironic Guinness can do. Conspiracy theorists everywhere love these stories about the battery that never dies, and so on. Well, here we are again. The Tuffy you will never need to replace - unless you lose it or it was stolen or .... and this is what I figured the company must have done ... they built in a small flaw that sooner or later you would pull some little strand by mistake and the Tuffy would slowly start to unravel and become a big mess. Other than that, one can use it forever. I am so glad to see them available again. I'm sending for one right away!

Tuffy scouring pads are hard to find. I grew up with them, but now in my medium-sized city, I can't find them at any of the grocery stores. Finally I tried Amazon, and there they were. I would rather not have to pay shipping, but that's the way it goes. Now all of my family members will get a Tuffy or two in their Christmas stockings this year. Plus I can finally retire the 8-year-old one I have been nursing along.
