I purchased this as a gift as well as one for myself. I have to admit I must be a bit challenged as I had no idea how to put it together; it does not come with instructions. HOWEVER, I kept at it and was able to figure it out looking at the picture. I have never used the clamps that hold the whole thing together before. Anyway, everything works, the magnifying glass is perfect for threading needles or taking out splinters or even reading some fine print. I do not have a use for the pincher arms, like tying flies for fishing or circuit boards, but I could see that this would be perfect for those uses. The person I bought it for as a gift, is a fly fisherman and I think this will be very useful for tying flies. I will have to think of other ways to use it.
I do have a little trouble turning the light on and off. It is a little rubber push-button that takes some getting used to.
Anyway, I like it.
