i bought this to keep in my pack. (i was told you should always carry 2, in case you don't trust the 1st one). it's super accurate. it's built rugged. it has a nice little case for it. i haven't used it for map reading or anything other then just using it as a "compass". i have no complaints for what i use it for. for the price how can you go wrong? i would recommend it. i would say that even if this is off by a few degrees, so what. (mine is not) it will get the job done as an everyday backpack or camping/hunting compass. if you are looking for a bad@ss life saving compass that you could drive a truck over, buy an expensive one.
