If you are hiking and absolutely need a compass to find your way, you might not want this. But for everyone else... this is an amazing deal for the price. The build quality was far better than I ever would have expected for something so cheap. It even points north! (though it does need to settle, and I recommend checking "backlash" if you're using if for orienteering.Customer Review: Great handy compass

This is a quality compass for the price and really all you need for general navigation or to get you out of a jam if you get lost in the wilderness.
I really like the soft pouch case that came with this. The metal body has a solid feel, and I think it will withstand a great bit of abuse. I have had it for 10 months now and it works great!

Don't be surprise that you will find this with a much cheaper price in flea markets or One Dollar stores. I have tried to look for but could not find where it was made (Why there is no declaration?) Although the look is like the military one, but it is no where near the quality you would expect. Besides, it performs quite slow and I don't think it's weather sealed. Don't waste your money. I needed a compass for aligning Satelite Dish. I ordered this inexpensive compass. When it arrived, the dial would barely move. Not sure it ever found north. It was not worth the time and cost of mailing back. So minutes after opening the box, it was in the trash, and I was ordering a better more expensive electronic compass.
I rarely write a review but I thought it was my duty in this case.
