Tools and Hardware Reviews of the SOG Specialty Knives & Tools S66-N PowerAssist Multitool with Power Assist BladesTool Review: awesome Summary: 5 Stars
I had wanted a SOG for a long time, being a Seattle resident and working in theatre where multi-tools are mandatory. My previous no-name tool had pretty much fallen apart and I was evaluating Leatherman and Gerber but got this and don't regret it.
First off, it's built like a tank. Rock solid and with a gear system it means repeated openings won't degrade the tool over time.
The knife and saw knife are both great, and the fast-flick release system is fantastic. You can use it in closed position which is wonderful.
The other tools run the gamut, tho I'm not sure if the cutter is better than a standard scissors attachment. Though with this one there's less moving parts to malfunction.
There's two basic flathead type tools, and I would've loved an awl or another for variety. Especially since this tools is HEAVY. It has to be given it's nature, but for ultra-light backpacking, say, you might be better with a more streamlined tool.
The "extra power assist blah blah" thing is a bit of hype, but there is a tiny bit of extra flex when you tighten on something that makes it easy to gauge when you're applying full pressure. The pliers are awesome and versatile. The wire cutters seemed to immediately burr up, but sill do what they should be doing so I'm not complaining.
Totally satisfied and now fully-prepared for anything the job throws at me. Yay!
