Tools and Hardware Reviews of SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air CoolerCustomer Review: An alternative to AC Summary: 4 Stars
Living in the south parts of Colorado, this cooler does a decent job. Obviously, the air from this machine is no where near as cold as an actual AC, but it is definitely a lot cooler than a generic electric fan. Literally just plug it in and add some cold water (and ice for a bit more cooler air). The fan itself blows hard enough to be felt at less then 10 feet away and can bring the temperature down a good 10 or so degrees. Just remember that this machine is meant for small areas and most likely won't cool down a large room. Also, for some reason if it really bothers you, after long periods of using this cooler, your room tends to smell like water.
If you're looking for something better than an electric fan, that isn't a AC, try this cooler out.
Customer Review: Awful!! Do Not by this product Summary: 1 Stars
Since I received this item, I was not satisfied at all! I put a negative feedback and a person named Tim called back saying that he would take care of this matter in no time if I removed the negative feedback, since then me and my husband have tried that number several times per day during the last three days and no response from vendor. E-mailed again and no answer. I want my money back now!!!
Customer Review: Bad Summary: 1 Stars
Does not do what it suppose to do and they take forever to refund you your money back. I would recommend just getting the air conditioner you get and install in your window. That is for sure it will work. There $79 at Target for a window air conditioner.
Customer Review: Better than standard fan Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this unit to position next to me while I work at my desk. This swamp cooler--together with lots of ice water and trays of ice cubes--performs slightly better than an ordinary fan. NOTE: If you need to remove the rear compartment hatch for cleaning, etc. note that the crappy instructions: "Pull out connecting sticks" refer to the two screws at the TOP of the panel. If you go by the manual, you'll be looking in vain at the bottom of your unit for the "sticks". Also, should you remove the rear filter, good luck trying to put it back. It is made of sheer, cheap material and the thin plastic guides are nearly impossible to re-thread the filter back into place. My unit's annoying alarm--which is supposed to indicate a lack of water--routinely goes off no matter how filled the water tank is.
Customer Review: Cheap and effective cold air Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great little machine that even an old lady can operate! Here in the Southwest corner of the US our temps can reach 110, as they did a week ago. The little Sunpentown was steadily pumping 67 degree air into our living room. We use the Sunpentown as a "crutch" to our 4 ton A/C, running them both at the same time. With the Sunpentown, however, the A/C cycles off and stays off for longer periods of time, saving us lots of dough all the while! If you live in an area where humidity runs 50% or less, this will be effective in your home.
