Tools and Hardware Reviews of Safety Siren Pro Series HS71512 3 Radon Gas DetectorCustomer Review: Best decision to buy this deivice Summary: 5 Stars
I have to keep track of who is using it next. All my friends asked to place it into their house for a test. One neighbor showed up at 21.. ouch! We had remediation done and as part of the finish I used a provided tester and it matched this tool's reading. I like to turn it on in our house now just to check. I am spreading the word to co-workers and others who don't even think about radon. This little device works very nice and worth the price for monitoring and for friends. I highly recommend it for a friend. What piece of mind to test every month and no $35 for each monthly test with traditional devices.
Customer Review: Better safe than sorry Summary: 5 Stars
A couple years ago I used the 2-day canister-type radon test which gave a reading of 4.0. This unit reads 6.0-7.0, indicating we have a radon problem which we will have to fix. I do not know its accuracy, but it seems to be in line with the previous test, as we have sealed up the house more since the last tests. It's nice to be able to move it from the basement to the main floor of the house and check the radon levels in any room. In any way, I'm happy to own it so after we install a radon mitigation system, we can continuously monitor its effectiveness without having to constantly buy tests, send them in, and wait for results, which could become as expensive as this unit. Only downside is it was a little expensive, but then again, it can save our health. The measured levels do change throughout the day/week, which I read is normal, the amount of radon can change with weather conditions (wet soil, wind, temperature, windows open/closed, etc).
Customer Review: Confirmed By Test Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased this unit and got high readings so we contacted a radon test company. They ran their test and the numbers came in right on the button with our Safety Siren Pro Series 3. Mitigation was done and a follow up test was performed by the testing company. (Testing and mitigation were done by two separate companies to avoid any conflicts) Now our always-on Safety Siren Detector provides a consistent way to visually check the current readings and also will provide an audible warning if the levels ever get too high again. Our mitigation system has only a visual method of checking operation and it's nice to have the audible backup of the Safety Siren.
Customer Review: Detector readings closely match other tests Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased 3 of these units, two for my home and one for my daughter's house. The radon levels it shows closely match other tests that I've done in the past. My crawl space has about 16 to 18 picocuries of radon, my first floor 1.5 to 3 in the summer and 4 to 5 in the winter, and a second floor bedroom 1.5 most of the year. I'm trying to reduce the level of radon on the first floor during the winter with additional crawl space ventilation. The advantage of an electronic detector is that you can watch the radon level changing under different conditions and experiment with ways to reduce it when you're close to the 4 picocurie level that I have on my first floor or use it as an alarm for an active radon mitigation system which my daughter needs to be in working condition for her basement.
Customer Review: Don't even think about the mail-in tests... Summary: 4 Stars
I was about to purchase the mail in tests a number of times, and hesitated purchasing this unit due to the extra cost. Boy am I glad I did. I am doing a few various things to help mitigate our radon prior to moving to an active remediation via an in-line fan. This allows me to test different areas, and do "before & after" tests like after I sealed our sump pump pit.
In short, it's great. You can lend it to your neighbor when you're done as well. A great product.
Would have awarded 5 stars, but just would have liked a bit more info on the long & short tests and which are more reliable, etc.
