Tools and Hardware Reviews of Safety Siren Pro Series HS71512 3 Radon Gas DetectorCustomer Review: Faster radon results Summary: 5 Stars
I used charcoal tests (7-day and 3-month) to confirm the presence of radon in our home, and the Safety Siren to verify that the mitigation system I installed in my house was effective. In the event I still had elevated levels of radon, this device would allow me to sample several locations quickly to find the source of radon entry, a task that would be difficult and/or time consuming with charcoal tests. Several samples around our home confirmed that the radon mitigation was effective and uniform. Now I loan the detector to my friends so they can quickly determine the radon concentration in their homes.
The instructions are easy to understand, and the simple menu on the device is easy to navigate. The Safety Siren provides an easy, affordable way to measure radon in real time.
Customer Review: Get it, don't screw with the $5-10 tests. Summary: 5 Stars
Why screw around with radon if you know you have a problem? You can use this sensor and move it around your basement/house letting it cycle for 2-5 days in each spot to narrow down the source. Find your problems and monitor them in real-time... Anyone who needed or needs a mitigation system should own one of these. Saving $$ now isn't worth it in the long run... If only the price of this unit could fix cancer... :( Might as well do all you can to avoid it!
Customer Review: Glad I bought the siren Summary: 5 Stars
Easy to use tool to measure radon level. It takes a few days to gather information but since then it I can follow the levels in my basement. Levels vary fro 1.4-1.8 so I know it's reading. This was within the range when I had the basement tested professionally some years ago. The device is small and doesn't show up too much. Keep in mind on the down side the meAsurement is up to 40 percent off as is noted in the owners manual. I hope they can narrow that range some day
Customer Review: Good Investment Summary: 5 Stars
The device is easy to setup and use. Within 48 hours I had a reading which confirmed my suspicion. I was able to move it around my basement and get several 48 hour readings. After I had mitigation performed the new reading was within the expected tolerances. Several friends have already asked to borrow the device.
Customer Review: Good Product (but only one year warranty) Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this product to verify a radon level measurement in my home after using the mail-in radon test charcoal cartridges. I decided to buy it so I could do multiple tests in several rooms upstairs and downstairs, thus saving the additional costs for several mail-in tests. So far it has done what it is supposed to do. The accuracy seems very good. This machine gave a reading that was within 4 points of the result I got using the charcoal cartridges. It's very nice to have an immediate result right there in my home, without waiting for the mail and some far-away technician to process my test.
My only comment is that I did not know that these devices needed to be recalibrated once per year in order to ensure that they are functioning properly. My radon mitigation contractor told me this after I bought it. I think that's the reason for the one-year manufacturer warranty. This is all fine but, in the interest of full disclosure, I would have wanted to know this before buying it.
Bottom Line: It's a good idea to test with the traditional mail-in charcoal cartridges every six months to verify the continued accuracy of the machine.
