Tools and Hardware Reviews of Seville Classics SHE18370B 18-Inch by 36-Inch by 72-Inch Shelving System, ChromeCustomer Review: Exceeded My Expectations!! Summary: 5 Stars
We ordered this shelving system to store extra food in our basement. We have limited shelving space in our kitchen and usually buy in large quantity from places like Costco or Sams Club. So a lot of our shelving space was being taken up by much of the same product. We figured we would buy a shelving system and keep just a small usable amount on our kitchen shelves and keep the rest stored on these shelves in the basement. It was a great idea as it has ultimately given us at least 30% more shelving space in our kitchen.
First and foremost this unit was extremely easy to assemble. Not a single tool was needed. You simply screw the 2 halves of the poles together by hand, affix these plastic fitting rings on the posts and slide the shelves down onto the rings one at a time. I assembled this unit by myself and was finished in less than 15 minutes. If only all of the assemble it yourself items I purchased were this easy to assemble. It really cant get much easier than this and even people that typically have trouble with assembly should have no difficulty putting this unit together. There are some reviews on Amazon that complain about the instructions. Well, I for one disagree as I had absolutely no trouble understanding the instruction and again I had it together in less than 15 minutes without the use of a single tool. It was hands down one of the easiest home assemble jobs I have ever done. These are adjustable shelves so you can set them up any way you want in regards to distance between shelves. In fact, you could even take out a shelf or two and just make it a 3 or 4 shelf unit. Its totally up to you how you want to do it. We did the basic set up and used all 5 shelves spaced evenly apart. There are rings notched all the way up the poles and these rings make it extremely easy to space out the shelves accurately.
As for the quality of the unit, its top notch in every regard. This is a heavy duty shelving unit and was so heavy in the box that it literally took two of us to carry it down the stairs. Once assembled this unit was far sturdier than I expected. Its important to note that you can either install wheels at the base or a flat fitting plastic peg which makes it far more sturdy. If you use the pegs instead of the wheels, the shelving unit is basically unmovable once you have items on the shelves. Its also important to note that the wheels drastically cut down on the recommended total weight that the unit can hold. If I remember properly it was around 750 pounds total if you use the wheels and 2500 pounds if you use the flat pegs. So these shelves can hold far more weight if you go the peg route, which we did. We are using this on a shag carpet and the unit doesn't even have the slightest wobble. Again its far sturdier than I thought it would be.
We actually ordered a set of plastic shelf liners specifically for this unit and this is something I highly recommend everyone do. It basically gives the shelves a flat surface thus making them far more practical for storing small items. Actually it makes it more practical for pretty much all items regardless of size. They were very inexpensive and were worth every penny.
Bottom line - if your looking for a high quality shelving unit than look no further. Its extremely easy to assemble, is extremely high in quality, can hold up to 2500 pounds if you use the pegs, and last but not least it looks fantastic. Again we are using ours for food storage in the basement and its really unbelievable how nice it looked when we had all the shelves filled. We were about to buy some of those cheap plastic shelving units that people use in garages and I am so thankful we didn't go that route. Of course the last thing this world needs is more plastic shelves in a land fill so it was also a good choice for the environment. To say that I am satisfied would be a massive understatement.
Highly recommended!!!

Customer Review: Excellent Quality, Assembly, Durability, Usability, Value Summary: 5 Stars
This is the fourth size of these shelves I've gotten. One larger and two smaller - let's call this one 'large'. The X-large one was my first. It is one 6-shelf unit or two 3-shelf units. I use it as two units. It is loaded with heavy power tools, loaded tool boxes, etc and handles it with no problem. The medium sized ones are packed with garden supplies, gallons of paint, etc. The small one is loaded with gallons of bleach and detergents and softener bottles. This large size I use for boxes of house supplies - some heavy some lite. The product is as described and looks exactly like the picture.
QUALITY = Zero defects with the legs, shelves, plastic height adjusters, wheel assemblies, welding and chrome plating. The design is simple and effective - the weight of the shelves and items of the shelves hold everything in place - no screws.
ASSEMBLY = The instructions are poor but once you figure it out it is quick and easy and simply repetitive to put together. I've assembled all of mine by myself. The first x-large one I got took me an hour, now it takes me 10 minutes to put them together or tear them apart to change the shelf heights. No special tools required - all of mine came with a little wrench to tighten the wheel bolts. A rubber mallet proved handy to tighten the shelves down on the plastic adjusters (and to knock them loose to change the height as desired) but a shoe works as well. One corner of a shelf kept popping up and causing the plastic adjuster to pop off until I figured out I needed to get it on a level floor, square up the legs by twisting the whole unit a little, and whacked it with the mallet to wedge it down on the plastic adjuster. Caution: Don't step on any of the plastic height adjusters as you assemble it cause there are no extras!
DURABILITY = I can't imagine what I could put on it that would be heavy enough to break it. Compared to the laundry shelf/hanger unit I bought from a competitor these shelves are commercial strength. The laundry shelf wiggles and wobbles every time I touch it but these shelves are sturdy. Heavier than I expected too.
(2011 Update: I finally broke one wire on a bottom shelf by 'throwing' a 24 case of soda pop on it. I still love these shelves and bought another large one for the storage unit in my rental condo - doubled the storage 'capacity' of the storage unit for my tenants.)
USABILITY = Great. I definitely prefer the models with wheels for ease in rearranging my basement storage and for cleaning around, etc. Even fully loaded with heavy items the x-large one is easy to move around with wheels on concrete. The wheel locks work well (just place them on opposite corners of each other). The shelf spacing is very flexible with grooves for the plastic height adjusters every inch or so. Excellent for workshops, garages, basements, pantry, and contemporary or chef-quality kitchens - but not something I'd put in my living room - at least not in chrome. I'd probably lose the wheels if I were to put it in the kitchen to soften the look a bit.
VALUE = I was pleasantly surprised. I looked at the plastic shelves which cost less but for me the wheels, the looks, the adjustable heights, and the durability was worth the extra money. My sister has several versions of the plastic shelves in her basement and she doesn't like having to unload them or drag them across the floor to rearrange or clean. But if all you're going to store on them is boxes of bows and wrapping paper then these shelves are probably overkill. If I had a garage and/or a place for them in the kitchen I'd have more of them and put my heavy Kitchen-Aid mixer and the like on one of these.
Customer Review: False Advertising Summary: 1 Stars
This is a clear case of false advertising!
I ordered this item from Amazon/Target because it was described as stainless steel. It arrived and was chrome. I contacted customer service and they said they shipped the right item but would resend another one. The second item showed up as chrome too! I can get a chrome one for 40% less by picking up locally.
Customer Review: GREAT shelves Summary: 5 Stars
I rate these as "commercial grade". Love the storage space. The large wheels make the loaded shelves VERY easy to use. They do weigh 60+ pounds empty and are easy to assemble.
Customer Review: Good Quality Product Summary: 5 Stars
bought two of these and I am very pleased. Easy to assemble, sturdy, and works great for my needs. I would buy them again
