Tools and Hardware Reviews of Shake Away 8004520 20 ounces Small Critter Repellent Fox Urine GranulesCustomer Review: Just plain doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
This assumes that critters hate garlic and will stay away. Well, guess what? The squirrels that bedevil my life and ruin my garden also dig up my garlic cloves and EAT them. Shaking this around my garden I think just attracted them to my bulbs and other flowers and vegetables. It doesn't work. They just treat it like salad toppings. I had much better luck repelling squirrels and other animals with Liquid Fence and Hot Pepper Wax.
Customer Review: Look More Closely at the Instructions Summary: 5 Stars
A groundhog had been living under our deck for more than a decade, munching on our plants. Like some other reviewers, I bought Shake-Away and was disappointed when our groundhog destroyed our chrysanthemums immediately after I applied it last fall. After re-reading the reviews at Amazon that had prompted me to buy the product and the instructions for using the product, I realized that a single application was not enough. Multiple applications are required before the pest is convinced it needs to find a new home. After repeated applications, the ornamental cabbages we planted a few weeks after the chrysanthemums survived the whole winter (they had been decimated within days in previous seasons) and we haven't seen the groundhog since.
I'm now buying more for this season. Shake-Away sells a confusing line of products through Amazon. A glance at their website ([...]) was useful at distinguishing between products for rodents, small animals and large animals; but it certainly doesn't explain how these products really differ from each other.

It did not work, though we used tons of it around the flowers, perimeter, etc etc etc. The little furry friends ignored it and had a feast, anyway!
Customer Review: No effect is seen - skunks having their way still Summary: 1 Stars
This product did not appear to have any effect at all. We are trying to keep away skunks that are nearly ruining our lawn. I should have used grub control in July but did not and now in early October we are being attacked by skunks leaving our lawn looking partly rototilled on most nights. Shake Away fox urine granules have been applied for 8 or 9 days now using the instructions as best as possible. This morning and yesterday were the worst 2 days of skunk attack on our lawn yet. It may be that nothing works to repel skunks. Now I have applied one of the pepper concentrate sprays to the area but the reviews here show 5 out of 6 people giving that 1-star and saying it is worthless, too (I bought it at Lowe's - I could not even wait a day since the skunks damage us nightly). Maybe the only recourse is to go on hands and knees each day trying to replace all the divets and put as much soil back in the holes as possible and then never miss applying grub control again. My neighbors who applied grub control next-door do not have a single skunk hole! I wanted to use as little chemicals as possible but, in this case, I guess that was a mistake.
There are some comments that you have to apply lightly and it takes a while to work. My understanding is that a couple of weeks is all the skunks need to clean you out and wreck your lawn. I can not think why the skunks would smell fox urine for 2 weeks before deciding it is something they should avoid. More likely is that most of these types of problems will go away in a few weeks on their own but the damage has been done. I do not suppose there are any scientific double-blind tests out there on fox urine granules ability to repell skunks so for now you will have to go with anecdotal evidence. My anecdote is negative.
Customer Review: Not working Summary: 2 Stars
I have a problem with a pack of racoons that come after dark to get the catfood we have on the porch. Yes, I know - first step - take the catfood in at night - which we have started to do.
I sprinkled the Shake Away around and near the steps to the porch. I haven't seen the pack but one racoon doesn't seem to be impressed. He keeps coming every night and is ticked off there is no catfood ( left a large pile in one of the empty cat bowls). Also left droppings on top of the repellent in one spot.
Maybe he or she is just fearless.
