Customer Review: 12 NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES THAT FAIL FAST

Do not buy this product. It was fantastic for the first month or two [except that the extension tubes kept falling off]. Then it got weaker and weaker over the next month or so until it failed to hold a charge at all. I decided to get a new battery pack and was surprised to find that the pack is comprised of TWELVE 1.2v environmentally-unfriendly Ni-Cad batteries. Replacement is not readily available and it's doubtful that the vacuum is worth the cost of a new battery pack anyway. What a waste.

Ultrapowerful, lightweight, compact, and providing the convenience of cordless and bagless operation, this deluxe version of the renowned Shark handheld vacuum is ideal for the home, office, dorm, motor home, car, and boat. Accompanied by a 9-inch-wide floor brush and three extensions that create a 33-inch tube from vacuum to floor, this silver beauty will even vacuum carpets and hard floors without requiring the operator to stoop or kneel. Also included are an upholstery brush and crevice tool that attach directly to the vacuum's suction hole or to the extension tubes. Everything--vacuum, extension tubes, and tools--stores neatly in the recharging stand, which has an AC adapter attached.
The vacuum is powered by 14.4-volt Ni-Cad batteries, weighs less than 3 pounds, measures just 12 inches long, 7 inches high, and 5 inches wide, and captures dirt in a dust cup rather than a messy paper bag. The dust cup has a washable, replaceable filter and detaches with the push of a button for emptying. At 2 inches wide, the vacuum's suction hole is exceptionally large for fast, thorough vacuuming.
