Tools and Hardware Reviews of Sierra Electric JB5293 Motion Sensor Entry LightCustomer Review: Sierra Light? Take a pass. Summary: 1 Stars
The light was apparently either a returned of damaged and repaired item.
I am disappointed that an Amazon seller would try to sell a used item.
It had scratches on it and the flip-top feature would not hold the light part up, when the main bdy of the thing was vertical. Maybe that's why it was returned in the first place.
So, I wrapped a bit of wire around the hinge point and got it to stay in the right position. I figured the scratches won't bother me.
It has a weak sensor that will only activate the light if directly in front of it with a range of approx. 6 feet. Weak light too. Won't light up a very large area.
It does not have a daytime "off" function, which means even when it's light out, it will turn on.
Anyway, not worth sending back. It's junk and don't waste your money.
Customer Review: Very nice and handy Summary: 5 Stars
The description states that this will shut off after 10 seconds of last activity - however, these shut off after 30 seconds of no activity. Actually, after 30 seconds it dims down slowly then completely shuts off (looks sort of cool how it does that too).
It has a very nice design, and you can angle the light panel to the position you want. What I did to install one light up quickly on a ceiling and another on a wall was to use heavy duty sticky back velcro strips. Works like a charm. These lights are very handy and even my picky husband likes them.
I hunted all over town for these lights (Target, Kmart, Walmart, Fred Meyers, Home Depot, and Lowes) but no one carried them nor had they even heard of these type of lights! All they carried were very small plug in 1 to 3 LED type lights. Don't they know that not all hallways or closets have plug in outlets? This type of light makes an excellent choice to do the job where there is no access to an electrical outlet.
Customer Review: Works great! Summary: 5 Stars
Works great for my closet!
motion sensor is not the most advanced one thats out there but for the price and for what Im using it for, it is perfect!
Customer Review: Wow works better than I thought! Summary: 5 Stars
wow this little light works better than I ever expected. I have a front entrance way that is Very dark when I arrive home. I walk up to the door and the little light just shines perfectly onto the door and lock. I never thought that a little light that runs on three batteries would be the perfect solution for me. I plan to by at least one more for the walk up to my entry.
Customer Review: comes on night or day Summary: 3 Stars
The unit is easy to install and provides 'adequate' light sufficient for putting a key in a door lock or to prevent stumbling in the dark. If you expect a bright light, this is not your solution.
Comes on during daylight also. Not the best use of the battery power when a simple photosensor would make it so much better a device. After 3 months of occasional use, the 30 second auto-off timer died. It is now essentially a wall mounted led flashlight. Still useful but obviously cheaply made. I use the on/off switch to save the batteries and only switch it on when I need it to see the keyhole at night.
Still how much can you get for this low of a price? Even more expensive units don't list a photocell to prevent the unit from operating during daylight..... It seems OK under an overhang outside but I would refrain from exposing it to the elements without an overhang to protect it. With the no-photocell limitation considered, it is otherwise a reasonable product for the money but it is disappointing that the internal timer died after such minimal use.
