Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm SystemCustomer Review: Easy to install. Voip considerations. Summary: 5 Stars
I installed this in the course of a day. I recommend you take your time and plan the placement if you are concerned with a discrete setup. The transmitters are noticeable and could be an eyesore. Use the double sided tape. It works fine. You can screw them in once you are satisified if you wish. I plan on painting them to match the walls and doors they are installed on.
Once you figure it out, its a snap but don't rush.
I did not need to cut any woodwork. The door magnets do not need to meet flush or be aligned and they work well as long as the are close to and edge of the mate. There is a lot of flexibilty there.
I do not recommend the flood sensors. I reviewed them separately.
I need a Magic Jack to use the dialer as I have no land lines.
Customer Review: Easy to set up and use Summary: 5 Stars
Just received this last week, so I don't have a lot of experience with it yet. But I wanted to write to say that set up of this system is a breeze! Much easier than I expected, took about half an hour. The motion sensor works very well and can be set to a "low" setting so that it is not too sensitive. I have not set up the autodialer yet, so can't comment on that. I am using the system on a 3200sqft house and all the sensors work just fine with none out of range.
Customer Review: Effective remote monitoring system Summary: 5 Stars
This system is ideal if you want to be notified if there's is a break in, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg, plus your first born for the service.
It can call multiple numbers with a pre-recorded message to let your friends, family and you etc, know that there's a break in. You can set the order or frequency of calls to the programmed numbers. It can be set to silent or audible alarms and you can add vibration, smoke , temprature detector etc, modules to it.
You can set different zones to react instantly or to count down before going off. In addition you can slowly keep growing/adding on security sensors as your budget allow.
I've been using it for some months now with no problems and its real, real, easy to configure. I had one issue with it however and it's not a unique problem to the device. Be careful where you put the motion sensor or you'll get constant false alarms. Light reflecting through your windows/glass doors could set it off. Have it face inwards and away from mirrors that can 'see' the windows/glassdoors. Forgetting to turn off the ceiling fan caught me in the first few days. Apparently it was turning the pages on a magazine in some cases, and moving the curtains in the next.
Finally, it has a wide detection arc, so really think about where you are placing it(motion sensor).
Did I also mention that it uses 9volt batteries as backup power, though I am not sure how long that last or if it can recharge rechargable ones.
Customer Review: Excellent Value Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a good DIY home security system without monitoring service and after research I found the SC-1000 to be the best value for the money.
Positives
-Setup was breeze, it was easier to follow Skylink installation video on Youtube than read the manual. The whole setup took about 30 minutes ( including mounting the door sensors).
- Farthest Door sensor was about 75 ft away from the central console but had no range issues.
- Alarm was LOUD! and the dialer was able to dial out through my VoIP line to my Mobile
Negatives
- Mouting stickers that come with the unit are useless and mine peeled off within a day ( and triggered the alarm). I replaced them with ones from a local hardware store.
- By default all sensors are programmed to dial out through the dialer, remove them and just leave the control panel. Thanks to all the other feedbacks I did this as part of my installation
Unknown
Not sure how long the batteries are going to last on the sensors!
Overall excellent system and am very happy I bought this. I am planning on adding an additional motion sensor and a door/window sensor.
Customer Review: Excellent Wireless Home Alarm System Summary: 5 Stars
This system is excellent for a home alarm system. I purchased the SC-1000 with additional motion sensors, door sensors, audio alarms, keypad control, and the alarm sensor (if the smoke detectors sound, the system will autodial).
The system was extremely easy to install and setup. The instructions were fairly easy to understand.
I have a suggestion for those who don't like the loud beep that sounds when you disarm the system... I changed one of the six arming sequences, MPINAC, to all four zones off. Instead of using MPIN# to disarm the system, just arm it with MPINAC, which will turn off all of the zones without having that loud beep.
I also have some wireless cameras that connect to my DSL wireless router, so I can view the cameras while at work and/or record them to a computer. This is in case the alarm goes off.
I attached a door sensor to the inside of my electrical box that is on the outside of the garage just in case someone wants to open it to disconnect the phone line before breaking into the house; there is an audio alarm nearby.
While you are home, you can turn the zones to chime mode to hear if any of the sensors are tripped instead of the alarm deafening you.
So far we have not had a single false alarm after 2 months of use.
This system is excellent and I recommend it to anyone.
