Customer Review: Bad range when first installed, worse when it got cold

I bought this because its claimed range is 100' - more than many competing units. When I installed it in the fall, it never worked at anywhere near that distance - would work maybe 50% of the time standing inside the house next to a window that's about 50' from where the receiver is located (outside in the yard).
But here's the worse part: as the weather got colder, the range decreased - a lot! When it's 20 degrees F outside, it won't work from more than about 10 feet away. Completely useless for my application (trying to control outdoor lights from inside the house).
I'm an electrical engineer and understand the considerations with designing electronics to work over varying temperatures. Clearly the designers of this thing put in little or no effort in that area. For indoor use that might not be an issue, but outdoors = bad news.

This is the best remote of it's type and cost range that I've used. While I bought it for Christmas lights, the remote for my central vacuum just failed and rather than spend over $125 for a replacement I decided to try this and it works great. My central vacuum is in one corner of my basement and even at the farthest corner of the 2nd floor the remote works every time. I am exceeding the rated load somewhat for short periods of time (the vacuum isn't on for more than 10 minutes at a time) with no problems but I'm keeping a close eye on it.
It is true that it comes preset as either channel A or B so make sure you know which channel you are buying if you buy a 2nd, and of course you can't have more than two.

I have purchased the product to turn on/off a device similar to a vacuum cleaner in the outdoor environment. The specification states the distance up to a 100 feet. I could not get it to work further than 45 feet. The remote control unit is very compact compared to other similar devices, but lacks the advertised range.Customer Review: Blows the others away

I have tried other similar products from the box stores, which all were terrible. They only worked if you were 2 feet away. This remote works great!. It works through walls and every time.
