Like a lot of people I have found out that the new mattresses they sell are disposable. NONE of them are made to last. My mattress (a Serta) is less than three years old and already dented in the middle. I've had this foam mattress topper for a week now and I LOVE it! When it arrived, it was rolled tightly, but sprang right up to almost full size for me in about 5 minutes. The smell was hardly noticeable. It is thick and heavily weighted; actually falls back with a thud on the floor! It has kept us from having to replace yet another mattress. The Sleep Studio Visc02 is the best item I've purchased in many years. We have a Select Comfort mattress. If I made it firm enough to support my back - I would develop pressure points i.e. shoulders. We were looking at the the very expensive memory foam mattress and came across the rave reviews for the Sleep Studio Visc02. Bought and placed it on the select comfort -- immediate success. We have the best of both worlds - firm and adjustable support and the memory foam top. No back ache and NO PRESSURE points. Every night I am amazed how comfortable the combination performs. This is a much better quality product than others I've owned, and it does NOT make your bed too warm. I live in FL, so this is a big consideration for me. Make sure to allow at least 2 days for airing out before putting it on your bed. We had a really old, extra firm mattress we were sleeping on and after three nights of bad sleep, decided to get the foam. Amazon had a sale on the queen size and even though we had a full, it still work. The measurement was true to a queen, but the foam is flexible enough to bend and still fit even a full size sheet. A previous reviewer made us worry that this foam doesn't come with a customized cover, but that's not an issue at all; your mattress cover will fit just fine.
There was a smell but only right out of the box and if you dig your nose into it. We kept it aired out in the living room for a few hours just in case but detected no smells, even with my wife's sensitive nose, so we moved it into the bedroom. LOVE IT. 2 inches was just fine for us, gave that plush topper feel so we can sleep on our sides and not have a sore hip. 3 inches might have been too deep for us, we don't want to feel completely sank in.
Memory-wise, it didn't hold the handprint like in the ads, but honestly, I don't know what that is for except wow-factor or if you want to see a mold of your torso. The density still gave us great support and felt very luxurious.
