If you want something to help you save a few buck on your energy bill while also prolonging the life of Equipment, this is the tool for you.
I had an idea what this SmartStrip could do but i really wanted to see it for myself. This guy is as simple as it sounds and just as convient.
You have 1 outlet that you plug your switching device in. The switching device is the device that when you turn on or off turns everything else on or off. You also have 2 Always ON outlets (for DVR boxes or Broadband Modem, etc). And 4 "Controlled" outlets, 1 of which is an extra wide one. Now, the 1 outlet for the switching device is an Always ON outlet.
There is a little knob on the side for helping you tweek the switching setting that power off everything else when you put the main device into a low power state or off. Because some things draw power even when turned off so you may need to tweek it.
I bought this to try it out at work. If you want something to definitely help at home or at the office, this is perfect. At work, i had my Laptop at the switching port. I plugged the Monitor, the Speakers, the Desk Lamp, my cell chargers, any and all accessories into the controlled ports. I tweeked the knob on the side so that when I put my laptop into Standby, that it will also shut off everything else as well. To tweek it, you must put the computer into Standby mode and adjusted the knob until all the devices turn off.
This is great because the moment i shutdown the computer at night, it turns everything off and i don't have to forget about turning anything off. All that littles of electricity its saving is great.
You could easily use it at home. You can have it setup where your TV is the switch, your DVR is in the Always ON, your DVD, VCR, Game Consoles, Stereo, Home Theater, etc are all plugged into the Controlled Ports, So that the moment you turn the TV off, everything else turns off. No more nagging the kids to make sure they turned everything else, no need to round through remotes to make sure everything else is off.
The price is right as well, you are going to pay about the same price for something that also does about the same amount of Surge Protection, so why not get something that will save you in long running cost as well. It could pay for itself in the first year alone.

I purchased a Smart Strip and hooked up my computer and peripherals. I had to adjust the side screw to get everything to turn off, but it was very easy. I liked it so well that I bought a second Smart Strip to use with my TV. I highly recommend this product. I know the Smart Strips are saving money because nearly all of the devices that were on 24/7 are now only on when the computer and tv are on.Customer Review: A little too sensitive as to adjustments.

This product is a little too sensitive as to operation. You definitely need to make the fine-tuned adjustments via the adjustment dial. It is even more sensitive when you use the Antec Green Power Supply in your PC. You need to fiddle with the adjustment dial ti be precise and I find myself having to make periodic adjustments. It is the only flaw I see in this product. I own several Energy Saving Surge Protectors (The APC Energy Saving SurgeArrest, the Philips Surge protector, and numerous SmartBits.
This surge surpresser does uses less than half as much power (.07 amps) in standby mode as the APC SurgeArrest (vs. 0.18 amps). However, the APC SurgeArrests needs no adjustments, it works flawlessly out of the box. In fact, the APC SurgeArrest has no such adjustments) to ensure the controlled outlets turn on when the master outlet turns on.
For maximum savings, I like the SmartBits when it does work without a hitch. For flawless operation, I like the APC unit better than the SmartBits because you do not need to fiddle with adjustments.

There isn't much to say about this other than it works as advertised. For a long time my fiance and I have been manually shutting off one powerstrip when we left home. The sad thing was we couldn't unplug 2 electronic devices (TV and wireless network that had to be left on) and, as a result, have had our home theater on 2 different power strips, one of which we shut off manually. While surfing amazon, we found this "smart strip" and we thought why not give it a shake and see.
We are not disappointed and am happy with the purchase. When we shut off the TV, all the power sucking electronic devices in stand-by mode shut off too. When the TV is powered up, all of them magically get power back. Since we occasionally forgot to shut off the one power strip when we left for work, we were losing money compared to now. Now if the TV is off, all the electronics are off too.
A simple and elegant solution to a problem with modern electronics. THANK YOU!!!!
