Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smart Strip LCG5 Energy Saving Power Strip with Auto-Switching Technology and Modem/Coaxial Surge Protection

Customer Review: The only bad thing about this power strip is the price, in my humble opinion.
Summary: 5 Stars

So far I have been really pleased with this powerstrip. The energy savings is a bonus to me. My primary use for this power strip is to turn on super quiet cooling fans in my entertainment center when my amplifier comes on.

It is handy that my TV, and other non-essential devices are completely turned off and not drawing any power when the amplifier is off. I'm glad that my satellite TV box can now stay cool when the rest of my equipment is on.

Besides the price, I guess I would have liked this power strip much better in black instead of white. It doesn't matter because it is inside a cabinet, but if I had to put the powerstrip behind the cabinet it would have been better looking as white.

Customer Review: The perfect power strip
Summary: 5 Stars

This is really the best power strip for TV or computer setup.
Pros:
* Enough sockets, with enough spacing for adapters
* Surge and electro-magnetic protection - I like that the LCG5 model also includes coax protection
* Energy saving with easy to use color coded sockets, as well as "always on" sockets when required (satellite box, router/modem,...)
Cons:
* None !

Note:
* I measured the energy saved, and the savings with my 2009 electricity rate. The strip in itself uses a tiny bit of energy (red LED and power detection circuit), as much as another power strip with a LED. With newer stand-by efficient devices I got for my TV setup, the savings are around $10/year, but goes much higher with older or less efficient devices (can go above $50/year depending on how many devices are powered off).

It has a small screw to adjust the sensitivity of the master device (TV or computer for example). I didn't need to use it though, as it worked out of the box for me. I also liked the color coded zones that makes it easy to find how each socket is controlled. I find it especially useful for computer setup as it turns off the monitor, speakers, printer,..., when I turn off the computer. I don't have to do that manually anymore !

Customer Review: The perfect solution
Summary: 5 Stars

Works perfectly. I bought a nice new receiver and the only feature it didn't have was a switched outlet. I use this strip to turn off other components such as my HDMI and composite video switches when my receiver turns off. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Used for my computer system, of course
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this to replace my ten-year-old current surge protector, and I love it. Like others have said, it is very simple to use. The CPU, of course, is in the "control" outlet and my monitor and printer are in the "switched" ones. The modem, my cell phone charger (I charge my cell phone on my computer desk) and the charger plug to my Nintendo DS are on the "constant hot" outlets, and sufficient space was provided for both of the chargers' adapter-like plugs, which was a definite plus. It seems like most surge protectors I have gotten never have enough room for all of that. I like how the unit gives a choice of having something switch off with the control plug or be constantly on.

This didn't work right out of the box, though. At first, everything that was supposed to switch was remaining on. That was easily fixed by turning the small dial on the side just until the components that were supposed to be turned off did so. So, if this happens on your unit, don't be alarmed or think it's broken.

Overall, I love it and I think it's a great idea. I went ahead and bought a different model from this line to go with the home entertainment system as well.

Customer Review: Using with computer, monitor, speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the main reason I got this was that I have a really nice set of desktop speakers for my computer but they don't have an easy power switch. The only way to turn them on and off is on the sub, which I have under my desk.

So I plugged in my monitor and speakers to the controlled outlets, and my computer to the main outlet and presto. Now when I sleep/turn off my PC the monitor and speakers turn off.

Great product.

I did have to adjust it slightly, but since they included that ability it works perfect!
