Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smart Strip LCG5 Energy Saving Power Strip with Auto-Switching Technology and Modem/Coaxial Surge ProtectionCustomer Review: Works Good So Far Summary: 5 Stars
According to my wife, we had one minor glitch where the always on plug started going off and the DVR failed to record a program. But since we've restarted the power strip, we haven't had a problem like that since (knock on wood).
Pros:
1 - Two strips saved us between $4 and $6 on our electric bill last month. I say that because I was actively turning out other lights and appliances in my new found awareness. This means the investment will take a year or more to pay itself off. Not bad.
2 - Very convenient. By turning off the TV, everything else just turns off instantly. That saves clicks on the remote so it's added usability.
3 - Good for the environment. ;)
4 - It has a fine-tune adjustment for a computer which has a higher trickle power usage than something like a TV. The adjustment worked perfectly for our computer, scanner, monitor, printer, etc.
Cons:
1 - VERY expensive. Probably worth it though.
Customer Review: Works as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered 2 of these and 2 of the smaller version. These were for my computer systems. Setup was easy and the always on outlets made it easy to plug in the modem and wireless router so that they could continue transmit even when the computer, monitor, printer, and speakers were deactivated. I recommend that you start out with the main device turned on and then adjust the dial until it turns off the dependent outlets. Then turn it back just to the point where they are turned back on. I suspect that I will see quite a savings from these.
Customer Review: Works as promised. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for use on my computer. It worked as promised. I did have to adjust the sensitivity dial on the strip to get it to shut down when putting my system into standby, but worked fine after that.
A couple of items to note:
-I couldn't plug my cable modem into one of the switched outlets without getting an error every time the system started back up.
-The phone cord that comes with the unit is only a two lead wire, so don't use it if you're running multiple phone lines out of one jack.
Customer Review: Works great Summary: 5 Stars
I love this auto-sensing power strip. Not only does it offer surge protection, but it works as advertised, turning off all devices automatically after I turn off my tv. Great for entertainment components that draw power even when turned off, like amps and subwoofers and dvd players, etc. Now all my units power down completely when I turn off my tv to save electricity and go into standby mode only when I turn on my tv so that they can also be used if desired.
Customer Review: Works great Summary: 5 Stars
I use Smart Strip for home entertainment and was not able to get a clear answer that it would work for that application. I set it up with an amplifier (~50W) as control circuit. When the amp turns off, everything goes with it. Cable box is always on, only because it seems to lose TV guide when disconnected. Only 30W. Unit works as I had hoped. Haven't had to test the surge protection yet!
