Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smart Strip SCG3 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching Technology

Customer Review: A great money-saving product
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased 2 of these Smart Strips a year ago and saw an immediate, noticable reduction in my energy bills. I plugged one into a plasma TV, DVD, VCR, Cable box set up and plugged another into an elliptical trainer with additional media connections. I figure that my Smart Strip paid for itself within 2-3 months.
Honestly, my biggest issue with this product is that it isn't carried everywhere! Why aren't all power strips cabable of truly turning off attached appliances?
I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Amazing thing :)
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought in attempt to automate turn on/off of an old power amplifier.
Now when I switch main audio receiver via remote control the amplifier comes up as well. Every time, very reliable. Power handlig isvery good as well. Devices consume 1600 watt combine at full power. The strip is handling that just fine.
Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Autoswitch not working after ~ 2years on the job
Summary: 2 Stars

This used to be a fairly trustworthy product, but about 2 years after I purchased it, its now useless. the autoswitching feature does not work, even when I set it to maximum sensitivity. The pieces that are plugged into the 'automatically switched outlets' never turn on.

Even before this, the unit was a little flaky - now it's completely shot.

I love how this strip powers off items that are connected with each other. Very convenient.

Customer Review: Big disappointment
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a flat-screen TV with four ancillary devices: a cable box, Blu-Ray DVD player, A/V unit and subwoofer. Plugged the TV in as the control unit, to turn off everything else when it is turned off, plugged the other units into the controlled sockets.

First thing I learned is that you shouldn't turn off the cable box, because it takes 10 minutes to reboot after being deactivated. So I plugged the cable box into an always-on socket and let the TV control the DVD player, A/V unit and subwoofer. It turns off the DVD player but not the A/V unit (and thus not the subwoofer, which is controlled by the A/V unit). Adjusted the sensitivity control to its limit and it still won't work. I suppose I could tweak things for half an hour, but this is supposed to be plug-and-play. Oh, and the TV unit actually _never_ turns completely off no matter what you do; there's always a blue ready-to-power-up light glowing.

It's going back to Amazon. I suppose if I used this thing for 30 years, I might break even on the tiny amount of power actually saved. Another example of eco-greenie marketing promoting something that in fact doesn't do much.
