Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smith & Wesson SWHRT9B Black HRT Boot KnifeCustomer Review: Everything i could ask for!! Summary: 5 Stars
After a long wait, i finally found the SWHRT9B and it hasn't disappointed a bit... The blade is quite sharp and fits well in my Indian hands... Forward grip or reverse, it seems to be equally comfortable an will make an excellent tool as well as a mean weapon in the right hands... The sheath is also good and though i don't think i can carry this around everyday to work, it will always be on my side during the hikes, treks an camping... hands down 5 stars...
Customer Review: Extremely pleased, enough to purchase 3 total Summary: 4 Stars
As I've written in other reviews, I've been very pleased with several of the Smith and Wesson knives found on amazon.com. These were no exception. I originally purchased 1 of these knives for use in my Bates urban combat boots, and have since purchased 2 more.
In regards to the quality of this knife, it is extremely well made. The sheath seems to be genuine leather, and the blade itself has a very nice powder coat. The handle is a very high quality rubber, and I believe the knife to be full tang. I haven't taken the handle apart to check, as that would effectively ruin it, but based upon its feel, and the weight, I believe it is full tang. The balance of this knife is wonderful.
As a note, this blade is double-edged, which has questionable legality in certain localities. Additionally, as it is a boot knife, in certain locations, wearing this in a boot without a concealed weapons permit may be illegal. While I am not a lawyer, and you should not take this as legal advice, in general, as it is a blade and not a firearm, nobody seems to care. However, it is something to keep in mind.
The blade itself is very well made, and has handled many throws at very objects (as the knife is so well balanced, I've utilized it as a throwing knife while bored, or just for fun). The powder coating WILL degrade over time as the knife is plunged into a material such as wood, as the wood will scrape it off. On my original knife, about 1 inch of the tip is without coating, mostly because of the amount of times I've stabbed it, or thrown it, into wood. The blade seems to hold an edge very well, but again, be aware, that the coating will come off if, during sharpening, you are not careful to sharpen ONLY the edge. The point has remained very sharp and "pointy", despite being thrown and stabbed into various materials.
In review of the sheath, it is very well made, and has held up exceptionally well to days worn in my boots. As a note, the "clip" on the side of the sheath, which keeps it in the boot, generally does not support thicker boots. It's made for cowboy boots, or something with a similar material thickness, and so hiking or combat boots are very difficult to use with these knives. In my case, I clip it on the waterproof goretex that it behind the zipper on my boots, which is much thinner. I am unable to clip it to the side of the boot otherwise. It does NOT clip well onto a pocket, as there is too much handle.
Again, I'm very pleased, and own 3 of these knives. The length is just about right, as is the balance, finish, and quality. You will not be disappointed, and I highly recommend this knife.
Customer Review: For The Price~Best Knife Youll Ever Get Summary: 5 Stars
When i looked at the price of this knife i thought it would be rather cheaply built, wouldnt retain sharpness, and just wouldnt be as good as the reviews said. thing was i needed a knife and it was the cheapest smith and wesson i could find.
I was 100% wrong this knife came extremely sharp, i have used it many times and the handle is perfectly ergonomic for my hand (i am 5'10" if that helps you).
Also the sheath is made of durable thick leather and the belt clip is fastened very well.
But As 1 review stated these types of knives are illegal to carry out of the sheath in 12 different states.
so be careful when you do buy it.
Buy This Knife YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT I PROMISE!
Customer Review: For the price... WOW Summary: 5 Stars
This knife was cheap enough that I didn't even buy it for any specific reason... I think this knife is such a great value that anyone should own one! While it seems to be an extremely well-made product, it looks rough enough that I won't cry if I drop it on the ground. In fact, I would probably even use it for practice as a throwing knife! The handle grip is not slippery at all, the blade is sharp as hell, and very easy to sharpen once it gets dull. The sheet is made completely out of leather, with a firm metal clip to hold it to your boot. The clip will certainly keep the knife in place unless you pull it off on purpose. The clip that holds the knife in the sheath is quite secure, but also easy to open and close with one finger.
This knife is a great all-around survival/outdoors knife! Totally recommended!
Customer Review: Fragile Summary: 2 Stars
I read in other reviews that it was a great throwing knife and that it was durable. They said that after throwing it at a tree, all that came off was the black finish on the blade. I threw it at a tree, and it stuck twice. The third time I threw it it didnt stick. The blade went one direction and the hilt went the other. The blade literally snapped in half, at the handle.
VERY disappointed, especially after having this for less than a month and this was the first time trying it as a throwing knife.
Maybe Smith&Wesson is best for their GUNS, and not the knives they produce!
