Tools and Hardware Reviews of Soleus Air CFM-40 40-Pint Dehumidifier with HumidistatCustomer Review: A few upsides and many downsides Summary: 2 Stars
It's true, this unit is the quietest dehumidifier you'll find. And yes, it's attractive enough that you won't be embarrassed to have it in your living space, though it still sticks out as some kind of appliance (unlike our Rabbit Air BioGS Purifier). But there are some serious flaws in engineering, reliability, and overall usefulness. We're on our second unit right now because the first one did not work... at all... on any settings combination. The unit we have now works, but is nearly as painful to use. Quiet/Med speeds and Dry/Med/Moist dryness settings do nothing at all, even in a bathroom that is clearly humid. A customer service rep told me High/Auto was the ONLY setting that works. And the unit has literally NEVER turned off or slept in Auto mode. We have an LG in our basement that's ugly and loud as an outboard motor, but it always works, never overflows, and has a spill-cover for emptying. The Soleus has overflowed onto our hardwood floors 5 times in the last 5 months--the unit simply didn't register that it was full and emptied gallons of water onto our wood floor while we were at work. The detachable float device to sense fullness is cheap and easily displaced, causing most of the overflows. And the lack of spill cover means that every time you empty, you can be sure you'll be mopping up water as you detach, or moving on your way to empty, the bucket. Even moving the unit from place to place is enough to splash water from inside the unit all over your floor. Very very disappointing design and usability. The quiet and form factor make it one of the only choices for use in a living space, but be warned you need to babysit this appliance a lot.
Customer Review: A good choice Summary: 5 Stars
I've only been using this unit a week but already it's performance exceeds that of my former unit. Lightweight and quiet, it wrings moisture out of the air in my basement even at the default setting. It is reasonably attractive and could easily be used in a bedroom or other living space because it makes very little noise and isn't obtrusive. If you need a medium duty dehumidifier I think you will like this model.
Customer Review: A malfunction soleus unit replaced by another defected Soleus unit Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased my Soleus 40 Pint Portable Dehumidifier CFM-40E six months ago and the unit was functional only for about two months. After reporting to SoleusAir, I shipped the item which cost $58 to SoleusAir for repaired. SoleusAir subsequently send back another replacement unit. Since receiving the replacement, I have been patiently testing the replacement dehumidifier with the humidifier running concurrently for nearly a week to make sure it is working. After nearly a week, I still have yet to see any water in the replacement unit tank. As of now, I am pursuing my full refund plus the shipping cost.
Customer Review: A product that works as promised! Summary: 5 Stars
I received the dehumidifier quickly and in perfect condition. I have it operating in my family room in the basement. It is quiet (doesn't interfere with tv watching and extremely efficient. It is easy to operate and empty the water tank when full. It also does not heat up alot like my old one. I am extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: A real gamble Summary: 2 Stars
I live on a boat and need a serious dehumidifier during times when all the doors and portholes are closed, during rain or a cold spell.
The Soleus was highly recommended by a couple of my fellow liveaboards. I used it only when I needed it, which was not much as the boat stays at the dock and I keep her aired out and dry and but after about one year of light use it just stopped drawing any water. Sounded the same, but drawing NO water.
Customer Service at Soleus were polite but totally uninterested, and had no solution for me. Just dump it seemed to be their attitude. After having paid rather a lot of money for it, I found that rather outrageous, not to mention the irresponsibility of dumping such large amounts of plastic into landfills.
I have since borrowed my neighbor`s machine, and I must say it works so well that I think mine did not work at 100% from the get go.
So if you are comfortable with a high level of risk , go for it, but if like me, you think no company with such an attitude deserves business , find something else.
I bought mine from a local dealer who has since relocated and I never checked online reviews. Now that I have, I see that there are far too many reports exactly like mine for it to be a coincidence. Soleus has a problem with this product.
