Hi All:
A reviewer has noted that if your expectations are akin to renting it for about $10 a month it will meet those goals. I must agree 100% with that review.
Sadly, after 18 months, mine has joined the lot of (I suspect) compressor failures. I too enjoyed the quiet performance and marveled at the compact foot print in comparison to my old Sears units (which gave me about 4-5 years on average).
My use was not nearly as strenuous as others here (Gulf Coast for instance), it was placed on a boat docked in California and was tasked with keeping the humidity down to 50ish. My review is based on my desire for a better record of longevity. But, as noted by the other reviewer, if the form factor and noise reduction is paramount to your needs this is the unit. My boat can live with a bit more noise and will enjoy a more robust unit this time around.
December 2010 Update:
This will seem odd (it sure does to me), but I left the Unit in place and came back to the boat two months later to find the tank full?!! I had not updated this review and I want to recant my original review. To this day I have no idea why it stopped working and (more amazingly) why it started working again but the unit is still going and I must say I am now very happy with its longevity and performance.

When I ask people for recommendations, whether it's a car or a contractor, I usually target people who have had a few years of owning the product. Whether the car is always in the shop or whether the tiling is still in good shape. I give this product three stars because after 1 season (3 full months) of non-stop use, the compressor broke on me - only the fan runs but there is no dehumidification. For the season that I was using it, it was wonderful - low heat, low noise, always a full tank of water per day. This season, I turned it on and found it had no effect on the humidity in my basement. I threw it out and bought a Kenmore that comes with a 5-year warranty on the compressor. That unit also had a lot of complaints and frankly, I prefer the one-season long performance of the Soleus, but I don't expect to pay ~$250 for only a single season of low humidity. I thought maybe this was a lemon, but I did have one season of good results and I did a search on the internet and found that others also had similar experiences of only the fan working and no water collection. If you read the Amazon reviews, pay attention if they've had it for some significant period of time.Customer Review: Avoid Soleus! Defective units, fictional customer service!

This company is one to avoid. After reading postiive reviews which I now believe to have been planted by the company and its marketing folks, I ordered one. After waiting for the supposedly back ordered CFM-40, we were delighted when it arrived and we installed it in the basement. For the first few days it worked really well, then started to lose its ability to pull water from the air. The manual suggested cleaning the filter, which we did - though it appeared not to be dirty.
A day or so later the unit stopped working entirely. Contacting Soleus cusomter service was an ordeal, but finally a technician called and we went through some steps on the phone. He said they'd send a replacement unit, but that we'd have to pay to ship ours back to Soleus. We did so.
The new unit, identically to the first, failed a few days after it arrived. That was more than a month ago - and now Soleus customer service no longer lists a telephone number, and doesn't respond to e-mails.
Anyone who buys a product from this company is taking a huge risk. I'd avoid them.

Attempts to contact customer support have gone unanswered.
These items have a very high failure rate.
AVOID purchasing any Soleus products.
Customer Review: BEWARE OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT!

This product worked well, until it stopped working. I used it for a couple of years, then it stopped functioning. I attempted to contact customer support to get it repaired, and was very disappointing with the results. Not only will they not give you any information on how you might get it repaired locally, the only repair option available is for you, the customer, to ship this heavy item to their southern California address. Believing that getting it fixed would still be cheaper than a new unit (and environmentally better) I shipped it via UPS, which costed $40. After about a week, I get a call from their customer service saying the unit was unrepairable. No explanation, no description of the problem. Of course I left it with them instead of losing more money. Yes, the unit worked well, but I will NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING AGAIN FROM THIS MANUFACTURER. THEIR CUSTOMER SUPPORT IS TERRIBLE! Pay the extra money and buy a product you can get fixed.
