I wasn't willing to pay a whole lot (close to $[...]) for a heater because it doesn't get that cold in sunny California. However, this year has been very cold for a long stretch of time, longer than any period I can remember.
I loved the heater sold at Costco (Presto brand) because it works really well but I thought that 1000 watts was a little high.
The Soleus, on the other hand, seemed affordable and, despite some negative reviews, I decided to get it. It's a decent heater and great for occasional use here and there. It's smaller than the Presto but it does tilt up and down and oscillates left/right. It has all the basic features including safety ones.
I hate to keep comparing this to the Presto but I was expecting a similar concentration of heat like the Presto. I think the Soleus produces more light and less heat than I expected. At the high setting, the light is very bright and unless you're going to aim it at your lower body it can get a bit annoying on your eyes.
The heat is not too bad if you sit close to it )within 5 feet. However, on cold nights (55 F or so), it doesn't seem to have the ummphh that the Presto does. The Presto does a great job at concentrate the heat towards you, even at far distances. I think the parabolic shape of the Presto is well made and that is something I believe the Soleus lacks.
Pros: Affordable, uses only 400/800 watts (low/high setting), tilts, oscillates, smaller than other big heaters
Cons: Very bright especially on the 800 watt setting, heat is good only in close distances, dish shape does not concentrate heat well.
I would still recommend this to people looking for an affordable dish for occasional use but if you need this frequently as your main heater I would go with the Presto or similar kind of heater. You really get what you pay for... as cliche as that may sound.
I'm okay with my investment but I only wish the light wasn't so bright.

I bought this to replace a Presto Heat Dish that broke. Overall I'm happy with it. It heats well and I like that it oscillates like a fan (in fact it basically looks like a fan with a heater core). It's also nice that the low setting uses half of the energy as the Heat Dish. My only complaint and warning is that this thing is BRIGHT! On the high setting, you literally cannot look at it--it's like looking directly into the sun. You either have to squint or wear sunglasses. The Heat Dish was like having fire place lighting but this is like having a blinding spot light shone in your face.Customer Review: Good...minor complaint

I got two of these heaters for a large 2 bedroom apartment. They're great for the most part...heat up a smaller room like a charm. The only complaint I have is that at night, they're really bright! They're not something you'd like to have in your living room while trying to watch a movie in the dark. They're so bright at night--looking straight into them in the dark can blind a person. I seen this heater being advertised a year back on one of the shopping networks. At the time I thought this was a cool looking heater but was not looking to purchase a heater. This winter was more colder and I remember about this heater and checked around. I didn't see this on the shopping network but found this on Amazon. The heater is really great. The radiant heat with the light emission really warms up the room at an even pace. The light brightens up the room much like a sun light. Also because this is not a fan force heater; it much more comfortable to be around with. It's totally silent and runs beautifully with the variable 90 minute timer. Plus you can oscillate or not depending on your need of instant or gradual warming. I love this heater. It is like having your own person sunshine. Seriously it feels like you are in the sun. It is pretty bright. That is my wife's biggest complaint with it. On low it is about like having a 40W light bulb on and on high at least a 60W bulb on. It does not look that bright in the picture but it is. I still love it though.
